16 March - Lent 5 Midweek
From the Pastor
Because of Who He Is
In this Sunday's reading from the Gospel, we have the parable of the vineyard and the wicked tenants.  In this parable, Jesus tells the story of an owner of a vineyard, who wants collect rent from those who are working it.  The owner sends one...two...three servants in succession.  They are all treated badly and none of them receives what is due.  Finally, the owner sends his son, who gets killed.  Any reasonable person hearing this parable knows what should happen to these tenants.   They should be arrested, removed from the vineyard, and punished for their crimes.  This is obvious.  What is not so obvious is why the owner would send his own son to people, who have treated his servants in such a terrible way.  In the end, the owner sends the son not because of who the tenants are, but because of who he is.
