College Bound
College Bound, preparation for college from a Christian perspective, will take place on 7 August 2016 during the Sunday School hour at MLC in the youth room.  The presentation will be led by Pr. Pacey. The goal of this presentation is to help prepare students spiritually and intellectually for the transition from High School to College/University. This meeting is mainly for incoming High School Seniors, incoming College students (2yr, 4yr, does not matter), and their parents. Please contact Pr. Ian Pacey or Mr. Robert Burmeister for more information.
From the Pastor
Get Rich!
Our Lutheran Confessions correctly mention that being rich is not a problem for Christians! Scripture gives examples of Abraham, David, and Daniel who became rich but at the same time considered to be great examples of Christian faith. The problem with the rich man in the parable of the rich fool is not his possessions, but his trust in "mammon" that caused him to stumble. Christians frequently hear two voices! The voice of the world that tempts them to get rich and then eat, drink, and be merry. Christians also hear the Word of the Lord that asks them to get rich with the help of the treasures Christ stored up for them! When the Lord puts his true body in our mouths and pours out the medicine of immortality into our throats, we get rich indeed with our eating , drinking and merry making! Then, worldly possessions should take a back seat. We may use them or even lose them in this fleeting world. Shall we get rich then? Amen.
Sunday's Scripture Readings & Hymns
Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12-14; 2:18-26
If you have small children (and even if you don't), you can learn the hymns we will be singing in preparation for Sunday. My daughter, Hilary, noticed small children singing hymns from memory in the church she attends in St. Louis and concluded that families were teaching the hymns to them so they could sing them, although they could not read. "Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise" (Ps 84:4)!

Hymns: LSB 743, 782, 618, 619, 797
