What's New Telugu?
The MLC Telugu community realizes that exposing our children to the Word of God is crucial for developing their faith. Some may think that children are too little to learn but it's not true! As a matter of fact, God's Word should be impressed upon their hearts from childhood! If they learn God's word when they are little, it will be ingrained in their hearts and mind. Telugu children are regularly watching, observing, playing, and learning from attending church. A few Telugu children attended MLS VBS and had lot of fun.  We hope and pray that Telugu children will grow up to become productive members of our church and community. Our hearty thanks to all the saints at Memorial who make this possible! Please don't forget to read the Telugu financial updates on the back of the church bulletins. Our financial goal through July is $7,569.00.  We also continue to appreciate your prayers, support and encouragement.

God is Still in Heaven
Even though I suspected that the Supreme Court would rule against the definition of marriage that has sufficed since the creation of the world, like you, I was deeply disturbed by it. First, it implies that sexual "rights" trump the free exercise of religion. The rite of self-definition is nowhere found in the text of the Constitution. The slim 5-4 majority made it up out of whole cloth, despite there being a first amendment actually in the Constitution. Second, it probably opens our churches and schools to a flood of pernicious government intervention and no free opposition will be permitted. Some religious expressions will be ruled illegal as hate speech. In the face of this ruling, we should not despair, because God is still in His heaven. The Psalmist says, "Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision" (Psalm 2:1, 4).

Who's New?

In June 2012, Barron Sawyer moved his family to Houston from his hometown of Santa Barbara to begin a career as a transactional lawyer in the downstream O&G sector.  They found MLC due to its confessional reputation, and were astonished at the young demographic.

Following high school, Barron pursued a ministry call for two years at a Pentecostal Bible college in Los Angeles, where he met his wife Kerry.  They later married, but completed college at UCLA, where he majored in philosophy and she, political science, while leading the campus' pro-life student group.  There they attended University Lutheran Chapel, pastored by Mark Jasa.  Barron and Kerry have four adorable, perfectly obedient children, Owen, Simon, Claire, and Colette. Barron is a fellow of the International Academy of Apologetics in Strasbourg, France, and a member of Houston's Sherlock Holmes literary society.

Welcome Barron. We are happy you chose MLC!

If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.
