From the Pastor
Growth Credit
The most striking feature in the parable of the mustard seed is its growth! Mark uses the vivid imagery of "the very small seed" and "the fully grown plant" to emphasize the rapid growth of the Kingdom of God. While it is a great delight to see the growth, our human tendency is to claim credit for the growth of God's kingdom. The parable doesn't say who is sowing the seed; It doesn't say what kind of resources contributed to the abundant growth; However, it's not difficult to eliminate the human contributions in terms of growth, because it is God's kingdom! A spiritually dead person is incapable of growing God's kingdom. Conversely, God is fully capable to sow the seed of His kingdom. He is fully capable of giving the seed abundant growth according to His gracious will. When He gives us the shade of His kingdom, we too like birds of various kinds may enjoy the coolness and comfort. Amen.
