Happy Festival Day

This Sunday is the festival day for Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles.  On this day we give thanks to God for these two men and what God accomplished through them.  What did God accomplish?  God took all of the good resulting from Jesus' death and resurrection and began to share it with the world.  Through the preaching and teaching of the Word as well as the administering of the Sacraments, God takes all of the righteousness of Jesus and grants it to sinners.  For us, forgiveness usually consists in the forgetting or dismissing of some trespass.  Occasionally, a trespass once forgiven will come back to haunt us.  When it comes to the forgiveness of God won by Jesus Christ, what we have is a complete release from our debt because it has been fully paid through the innocent suffering and death of the Son.  Saints Peter and Paul add nothing to this good news. What God called them to do was share it with sinners like us.

The Art of Living by Faith:
the Riches of Luther's Catechisms
The Rev. Dr. Charles P. Arand, Presenter.

The Rev. Dr. Charles P. Arand has served on the faculty at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis since 1989.  He currently serves as Dean of Theological Research and Publications.

This retreat will explore how Luther intended the catechism to be used not so much as a textbook but as a handbook or field manual for the Christian life. As such, it will give you a completely fresh perspective on the value and usefulness of Martin Luther's catechisms (both Small and Large Catechism) by unpacking the shape, theme, and pattern of the Christian life as it centers on faith.

The cost is $135 which includes meals and lodging at Camp Lone Star in La Grange, TX. Register online:    http://mlchouston.org/groups/men
