Newspaper Donations Needed by THIS Sunday!
Newspapers are needed for an art project during MLS summer camp next week. We had a collection that has found their way out of the school art room. Please bring any and all, new or old newspapers that you might have laying around and drop them off in a box located near the water fountain in the commons by Sunday 6 July.
From the Pastor
Independence

Independence Day is the day on which this nation celebrates the gift of political freedom. While political freedom is a great gift, it is not the only or even the most important freedom humans can experience. The most important is spiritual freedom. Spiritual freedom is the greatest because it is entirely a gift of God and therefore perfect. This is the freedom that permits us a peaceful conscience, which knows and believes itself to be freed from the eternal penalties of sin and the wrath of God. St. Paul says, "'Stand fast in freedom' (Gal 5:1). In what freedom? In the freedom which Christ has given us by His death on the cross. There is no greater.

Lord God, You have granted this nation great political freedom. Keep us from turning it into a license for fleshly excess. Watch over and protect our properly elected and appointed leaders, that they might uphold the rule of law so that we may live in peace and quietness. Amen.

Who's New?

Tina Lefakane hails from Botswana.  She has been living in Houston for twelve years. Tina graduated from the University of Houston with a finance degree. Tina got connected to Memorial with help of Afsaneh Aayani who just started attending Memorial. Soon after, Tina was introduced to Pastor Sagar Pilli, who encouraged her to attend the Adult Instruction classes. Tina continues to attend the classes and learn about Jesus and the importance of Christian faith.  She is very happy at MLC and intends to become a member soon. Tina is an intelligent young lady with a promising future. Welcome Tina, we are glad that you are in the church! God's many blessings on you as you continue your journey here.

Acceptance from Pastor and Kris Gaub

Excerpts from the acceptance of the call extended from MLS to Pastor Gaub:

To the Congregations of St. Luke Lutheran Church and School in Santa Rosa CA, and Memorial Lutheran Church and School in Houston TX,

I have received the Divine Call from Memorial Lutheran Church and School to serve our Lord by serving the members and students of Memorial as Teacher, and the Lord has led me to accept this Call.

Kris and I extend our thanks to the members of Memorial Lutheran Church and School for the opportunity to serve our Lord as teachers. We look forward to many years of proclaiming the Gospel to the students entrusted to our care. We are excited to be teaching in a Classical Lutheran School preparing students to be lifelong learners in the Gospel, prepared for service in the Church and in the world. It is true, this will not be easy, but it will always be rewarding.

May our Lord continue to shower His blessings upon the congregations and schools of St. Luke and Memorial!

May our Lord continue to shower His blessings upon the congregations and schools of St. Luke and Memorial!

Ever in Christ,

The Rev. Richard M Gaub
