From the Vicar
Mark 9:2-9
Why is it that man tries so desperately to contain God within a box? "I cannot believe or understand why God would allow [insert event]!" So our solution is to fit God into smaller confines for our brains to comprehend.
Peter does this quite literally in our gospel reading this week by asking Jesus if he would like for them to build him a tent. The Israelites used to tent or "tabernacle" the Ark of the Covenant. They would have a place of separation from God. Well the very miracle of Jesus is that in him there is no separation between God and his creation anymore. In Jesus' humanity there is no physical separation, and in his perfect atonement there is no eternal separation. We are now and forever with God again.
The only thing left to do is trust in that promise and that reality. So as we enter into Lent and prepare for Easter, let's not attempt to fit God into the confines of human comfort and logic. Instead, let us celebrate his incomprehensible perfection and love.
