Come join us Saturday 5 April from 8:00 AM-Noon, for Trustee Work Day to do a little sprucing up of the MLCS campus.   It's not all glamorous work but it's needed. Please email Mr. Thacker if you can come help us out. [email protected]

From the Pastor
Lenten Season

With the arrival of Ash Wednesday, we begin the season we call Lent.  Lent is a "thick" season for the Church.  It is thick with special services, special readings, and special rites or practices.  At the beginning of Lent, we receive ashes in the form of a cross on our foreheads.  The black, messy, and intentionally uncomfortable imposition of ashes is a public confession of our physical and spiritual weakness, our mortality which is the just effect of sin.

These ashes, this recognition of death, when they are placed upon our foreheads do not come in a random way, but in a specific way.  They come in the form of the Cross!  We receive these ashes in the form of the cross as a reminder that our sin filled, destined-for-dust flesh has been redeemed by Jesus through his own death.  Death does not get the last word here.  Jesus does!  We are forgiven for his sake.  We are redeemed from the dust for his sake.

As we begin to make our journey through Lent to the Cross, may we all hold fast to the truth of our sin and the truth of our forgiveness that comes from Christ alone.

Who's New?

Our new members featured this week are Bob and Brooke Randolph.

Brooke was born into a US Air force family and lived all over the world before her family settled in Deer Park, TX. She enjoys gardening, being a grandmother to their 4 grandchildren, and has completed 5 marathons and 2 ultra-marathons.

Bob was born in Richmond, VA and raised in Southwest Florida.  After graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Navy Flight School he was assigned to USCG Air Station Houston.  Bob works as a Product Manager at The Eads Company and enjoys running Marathons, camping, and hiking with their 4 sons.

The Randolphs chose MLC due to their desire for a congregation which held to the Bible and the Book of Concord and which worshiped through the Divine Service and the hymnody.

Welcome! We are glad to have you at MLC.

Please Consider Hosting a Visiting Choir Member on 17 April 2014

Concordia, St-Paul, MN under the direction of Dr. David Mennike will be our visiting choir on Maundy Thursday. Please consider hosting one or more of the visiting choir members on the evening of 17 April after Maundy Thursday 7:00 PM service. It's really a rewarding experience to help these polite, young musicians while they are on tour. If you are interested, please contact Tessa  (click her name for email) or at 713 782 6079.
