From the Pastor
Ready to Die?
When I was a child I thought that my grandparents were being morbid by checking the obituaries every day. As I grow older I am understanding. I am not reading the obituaries to find out that I am not listed there. However, my colleagues and dear parishioners are dying around me. In the obituaries, the birth dates of the deceased are creeping closer to my own. The resurrection of the flesh and the life of the world to come have become more important to me. He who formed the world of water has reformed my life in the sacrament of water (2 Peter 3:5); giving me life thereby. I am His new creation in Christ. The obituary that really means most to me is my certificate of baptism; framed on my office wall. I am dead. I live in Christ. Come, Lord Jesus!

Because You Asked
Estonia
Pastor Murray will be attending the consecration of the Lutheran Archbishop of Estonia the first week of February. Estonia has been an officially Lutheran country since 1686. Pastor Murray is being sent by the LCMS to be an official observer of the event. The LCMS is not in church fellowship with the Lutheran Church of Estonia. The consecration of the Archbishop will take place in the Cathedral of St. Mary in which Lutherans have worshiped since 1561. The consecration will take place on the Day of the Presentation of our Lord, 2 February.
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
