Update on Luke
Luke is one of our fellow MLC members. Luke has been fighting an amazing fight against Leukemia. He is currently in a maintenance phase where he takes nightly medications and receives light chemo once a month. Luke is handling everything like a champ and he  was able to return to school this past school year, attended VBS last week here at MLC, and he is diving head-first into summer activities with family and friends. He's ever the spunky, smiley kid that we see every Sunday.

Over the past few years, we have held two blood drives here at MLC in his honor. Your blood donation at any point during the year helps Luke and others like him to continue their therapy. Give Blood Give Life!
From the Pastor
Nicaragua Bound
Memorial Lutheran Church will be sending its annual mission team to Nicaragua today, 26 June 2015.  The group will be staying at the Nicaraguan Synod Seminary/Mission Center in Chinandega, Nicaragua.  The group will spend 10 days in Nicaragua working predominately with our friends in Jesus El Buen Pastor (Jesus the Good Shepherd) church in Santa Patricia, Nicaragua.   The team will be making repairs and improvements to the church building in Santa Patrica.  Each of the church sponsored students will receive a picture of themselves.  The team will also present a copy of the new Spanish translation of the Lutheran Study Bible to the Synod President, Pastor Marvin Donaire and also to the Pastor of Jesus El Buen Pastor, Pastor Mardo.

Who's New?

This is Johanes Karaze. He is from Tanzania, but lived in San Diego before coming to Houston.  His upbringing was in the Lutheran Church.  Johanes happened to be working in the Galleria area and often traversed Westheimer road to and from work, and noticed MLC.  When he attended service one Sunday, it reminded him of the church services back in Tanzania. He felt it was a placed he could continue to grow his relationship with God and build a spiritual life.  It was also a time when he and his wife, Happiness, were planning to have their daughter, Winiefrida, baptized. She was baptized at MLC on 22 February of this year and he joined MLC on 31 May.

Johanes is currently with Citigroup as a systems analyst. In his free time, he is passionate about chess and reading up on new technologies.

If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
