From the Vicar
Peter The Great?

In Matthew's gospel, chapter sixteen, we see Peter confess Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Jesus then exhorts the importance and significance of this confession.  Jesus tells Peter that he will be the rock on which he will build his church.  Is Peter this great and holy man that deserves this accolade?  Is he beyond reproach and err to the point where he makes the call of salvation and damnation?  No, this job belongs to Christ and Christ alone.  However, the confession is amazing and remarkable; so where does the credit go?

Jesus tells us here: no one of flesh and blood, but rather God in heaven.  We receive faith from God, not from ourselves.  The Church is not built on Peter, nor us today, but rather the God given confession of Jesus as our Lord and Savior in whom we have all things.

Replacement of Paraments
We are seeking to replace all of our paraments starting with our Advent Paraments this fall. Our paraments are starting to show their age. In particular, our Advent paraments are currently blue and we are replacing them with the more traditional violet paraments. We hope to order the Advent paraments by the end of September 2014 as they require about 8 weeks to be made and Advent will be here before we know it. Our goal is $8,000 to replace the full Advent set of chasuble, stoles, altar paraments, the veil, the burse, and 2 banners. If you can help with reaching our goal, please write your checks to MLC with the memo line "Advent Paraments" or if you have any questions, please contact Martha Fredenburg at:

If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
