From the Pastor
Reformation Day
This coming Sunday, we will celebrate Reformation Day.  There is a small controversy surrounding our annual, Sunday celebration.  Some are opposed to the celebration because it does not fall on 31 October, "official" Reformation day.  Others are opposed because the Reformation was not observed by the Church until the 1700s.  With so much going against this annual, Sunday observation, why do we celebrate it?  The reasons are simple: Reformation is nothing less than a celebration of the Gospel and the fact that God is actively calling sinners through the Word and the Sacraments to repentance and the forgiveness of sins.  This calling and this forgiveness is not limited to a particular time and place (say the ancient, Mediterranean world), but God is calling all people, in all times, and in all places out of death in sin to life in Christ.  With the Reformation, we are reminded of God's calling.  We are reminded of our forgiveness for Christ's sake.  These are worth celebrating; especially on Sunday.  Happy Reformation Day!
