From the Pastor
Sin and the Son
People in this world are always blinded by a false sense of freedom. It is possible for many to see themselves as completely free while they are still under spiritual captivity. Idols such as mammon (money), property, status, family, false religions, and false gods create a false security and keep people under life-long captivity. In our gospel text, Jesus reveals the importance of truth and what really sets people free from their bondage to sin. It is a great comfort to the troubled conscience to know that neither false idols nor individuals set people free. Jesus alone can offer people complete freedom! The Son battled over sin and delivered people from the bondage of sin with his suffering, death, and victorious resurrection. So, when it comes to freedom, the battle is always between sin and the Son. Of course, it is always the Son who prevails over sin. Amen.

Luther Academy: India
The Luther Academy, which our congregation has supported for many years and of which Pastor Murray has been the chairman of the board 2010-2015, is continuing its support of Lutheran education for a growing confessional Lutheran church body in eastern India, near the city of Guntur, called Bible Faith Lutheran Church. Every year the Luther Academy sponsors a seminar for more than 400 pastors from around the eastern part of the subcontinent. Pastor Murray taught there four years ago. This year Pastor Pilli and Pastor Murray will be going in January to teach again. Pastor Pilli will teach his own course and will also be available to translate for Pastor Murray when he teaches. It costs about $1200 to fly from Houston to Hyderabad, India. If you could support this mission outreach by helping to supply travel resources, you would know that your gifts are supporting a wonderful mission project sponsored by the Luther Academy. If you'd like to contribute to this mission project, please put on the memo line of your check Luther Academy: India. May God bless you!
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
