The Earthly Ministry of Jesus
The Sundays from the Baptism of our Lord to the Transfiguration are the called the "Sundays after the Epiphany." Because they bear the name "Epiphany," we might think they are the continued celebration of the incarnation of our Lord. This is not the case. The Sundays after Epiphany, rather than being a continuation of celebration of the incarnation, are focused on the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. The weeks begin with the "Baptism of our Lord" where Jesus came to John and publicly took on the identity of sinner (although he had no sin). The weeks end with the "Transfiguration of our Lord" where the manner of our Lord's departure is discussed with Moses and Elijah. At both the Baptism and the Transfiguration, the Father speaks. Concerning Jesus, he declared him to be his beloved Son with whom he was well pleased. The Father is well pleased because of the earthly ministry of the Son prior to the cross, which is a part of our redemption.
