The Kingdom Has Arrived
I love the simple summary in St. Mark of the preaching of Jesus in the gospel text for this Sunday. "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the gospel" (Mark 1:15). The moment had come, because the ministry of the Messiah had begun. The kingdom of God had come near, because Jesus was beginning to preach. What was the content of that preaching: "Repent and believe the gospel." That kingdom still comes among when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity.
