From the Pastor
The Root Cause is Sin
After spending the night healing the sick and demon possessed of Capernaum, Jesus leaves early the next morning to pray. While he is away, people begin showing up with more sick for Jesus to heal. As the crowd grows, the disciples become desperate. They look all over for Jesus. Once they find him, they tell him: "everyone is looking for you."
Although the crowds want Jesus, he does not go back to them. He does not go back because just healing sickness and disease is not his true purpose. His true purpose is to address the root cause of all sickness, disease, and every other evil. The root cause is sin.
In our Lord's suffering and death, Jesus has taken away the power that sin, death, and the devil had over us. We will encounter and suffer the effects of sin in this life. Yet, in Christ, we know that our sufferings are temporary and our joy with God will be forevermore.

Who's New?
Meet John and Nancy Geigel, two of our newest members. Nancy was born and raised here in Houston, John however was born and raised in New Jersey, but did get here as soon as he could!  We were looking for a  confessional Lutheran church and were blessed to find such a warm welcoming home at MLC.  We have 3 adult children, all married, but more importantly 6 grandchildren.  Nancy was a high school math teacher  before becoming a mom, John is a civil engineer with ExxonMobil.
Welcome to the Geigels!  We are glad to have you with us at MLC.
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
