Caroling to Our Shut-In Members

Mark your calendars and plan to join us after second service on the afternoon of 21 December, as we go caroling to our shut-ins.  All are welcome!

We will meet in the narthex directly after second service. We will go for a quick lunch at Jason's Deli and then meet back at the church to begin the route. Music and Maps will be provided. RSVP to the Church Office so we can plan for music.

From the Pastor
To Forgive Us

John, the Baptizer, is asked by the religious authorities: are you the Christ?  He answers: no.  They ask whether he is Elijah or perhaps the Prophet.  He answers no.  Not being the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet, they finally ask: "then who are you?"  John answers: "I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Make straight the way of the Lord'..."

John is more than a voice. He is a man.  Nevertheless, when it comes to his purpose, he wants us to think of him as deprived of all humanity except his voice.  Why the voice alone?  Because this is the means for sharing the Word of God given to John.

Although John's words were first spoken to his own generation, they continue to speak; even today.  They continue to call us to repentance as the right preparation for Jesus' first coming, second coming, and all the other comings in between.  Repentance is never a work offered to appease God.  Repentance is the declaration of the truth of sin and the revelation of why God comes: to forgive us.

Sunday's Scripture Readings
Can you Host?
Concordia Theological Seminary's Kantorei, under the direction of Kantor Kevin Hildebrand, will be visiting our choir on Sunday, 4 January 2015. Please consider hosting one or more of the visiting choir members as there are 16 young men and 3 staff members. Hosting involves picking up the choir members from MLC on the evening of 3 January, spending one night in your home, breakfast, and bringing the choir members back to the church prior to early service on Sunday morning. It's really a rewarding experience to help these polite, young musicians while on tour. Contact Tessa Pernoud by email by clicking on her name or call 713 782 6079 for more information or to sign up.
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray
