From the Pastor
"28. The love of God does not find, but creates, that which is pleasing to it."
Those marvelous words, penned by Martin Luther for the Heidelberg Disputation, a vital event occurring 500 years ago (!) this past Wednesday, set forth a very important truth unto us: God does not go out searching for what is pleasing to him; rather, he creates what is pleasing to him. How does he do this? By speaking what is pleasing to him into being: "You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you."
When Jesus speaks to you, he re/creates you as a clean, ever-more-fruit-bearing branch that is pleasing unto him-despite anything that you might see to the contrary, despite anything that anyone might say to you to the contrary.
"You are already clean," pleasing unto God-and that is the first and final word on that!
This past Tuesday, Blake Martzowka, was assigned as the 2018-2019 vicar-elect for Memorial Lutheran Church and School. He comes to us from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Stay tuned in the next week for a short bio.
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.
