The calendar finally turns to spring this coming week, and hopefully we are able to see some more seasonable weather soon! We are continuing to speed through the calendar at Memorial and we had another CARES Assembly on Thursday, March 15th at 2 PM to recognize a number of students for showing Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-control/Regulation. Some of the highlights are below.

We would like to remind everyone that  Parent Input Forms  are available in the main office or by clicking on this link .  We value your input for our consideration as we begin this process.  Forms are due by April 6th.
News from the School Nurse

A friendly reminder:
If your child requires medication while at school, this includes all medication from cough drops to prescription medication, it is school policy that all medications go through the health office. No children should be transporting any medications on the bus to school, they need to be brought in to the health office by an adult, in their original container. This policy is in place to keep all of our students safe and well cared for. Thank you in advance and feel free to call the health office with any questions.
Outdoor Recess   C:\Documents and Settings\bfox\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\381RVMEL\MC900232615[1].wmf
Parents, please be aware that our students will be going outdoors for recess whenever the air temperature is 20 degrees or above.   Children should be bringing their snow pants, boots, mittens and hats daily to be dressed warmly for winter exercise .  As the temperatures moderate, melting snow and ice will mean more slush and puddles on our playground area.   You are asked to send in a change of clothing for your child to keep in their cubby here at school in the event that they "find' a puddle and become soaked.  Clean dry pants, shirt, underwear and socks should be in a bag labeled with your child's name and grade.  Thank you for preparing your child for weather changes and outdoor play at school.

4th Grade News
Fourth grade is currently studying plant life.  We are specifically learning about various types of plants and how they adapt to their environment for survival.  Students are reading about the plants and taking notes, as well as drawing and labeling the parts of the plants that help them to adapt.  Each classroom has samples of different plants for the students to observe. There are also many resources, including picture books for them to investigate and videos that the students have been able to watch.  The culminating activity will be to create a super plant,to show their knowledge of plant adaptations. We are very excited about this unit of study.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run New Hampshire is actively recruiting volunteer coaches for the Spring 2018 season at Memorial School in Newton. Coaching a Girls on the Run (GOTR) team is one of the most rewarding ways to get involved with the program. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of the girls and have a ton of fun with your team of coaches and incredible girls (grades 3-5)!

A GOTR coach is a volunteer position that facilitates and supports the GOTR curriculum. The position requires approximately 2-4 hours per week for 10 weeks with the additional commitment of a one-time new coach training.  Coaches do not need to be runners.  They must be willing to lead with an open heart and assume positive intent.

If you are interested in helping to continue this program at Memorial or learning more, please contact Betsy Cissel, GOTR-NH Program Director, betsy.cissel@girlsontherun.org .
