FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY FALL BOOK SALE COMING SOON!

The changing season brings changing leaves and changing weather but the same great deals at the Friends of the Library Fall 2016 Book Sale! On Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave.), 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., book lovers can take advantage of amazing deals on a variety of items.
 

Pandemonium Cinema Showcase - Night Two

LIBRARY TEAMS WITH AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR FOR NEW MONTHLY MOVIE SERIES

Pure PANDEMONIUM is coming to Memphis Public Libraries for Night Three of The Pandemonium Cinema Showcase - presented by award-winning producer, director and screenwriter Craig Brewer and Black Lodge Video. On Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, 1 p.m. at Cossitt Library (33 S. Front St.), Memphis families are invited to Spooky Cinema: Kids' Halloween Marathon, featuring the free showings of The Addams Family, Gremlins, The Monster Squad, Hocus Pocus, and Monster House.

This family-friendly Halloween event is free and open to the public.

DOCUMENTARY EXPLORES MINORITY EXPERIENCE IN U.S.

Library customers will explore what it means to be minorities in America through the gripping documentary Finding Cleveland: Where Far East Meets Deep South. The free film will be shown on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave.).

Teens at Raleigh and Frayser libraries now have access to  free Music Production Workshops, thanks to the Memphis Music Initiative. Equipment is provided for the 8-week course, so teens only need to bring their creativity!

News anchor Katina Rankins will encourage local youth to reach their full potential regardless of where they are from, during a series of free storytimes at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave.), starting Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. The local TV personality will read her original book called Up North, Down South: City Folk Meet Country Folk

at Memphis Public Libraries for Halloween 2016! Kids and families are encouraged to come in costume to a list of free and fun events at several Library locations citywide, like BOO-ks with Friends from 4:30 p.m. to
6:30 p.m.

LOCAL AUTHOR TEACHES HISTORY WITH COLORING

Coloring can be fun and educational! Just ask author and businesswoman Kimberly Bailey, creator of the Color & Read Coloring Book Series, which highlights prominent men and women from the Civil Rights Movement. Bailey will use this creative teaching tool during Color & Read Storytimes at three Memphis Public Library locations during the month of October
