From Mr. Florence
We had an amazing visit on Monday from award winning author and illustrator Don Tate. He engaged the children with his lively storytelling and amazing drawings. We are grateful to Mr. Tate for such a fantastic experience at Mercer. Thank you to the Shaker Heights District Library Services for bringing a presenter of this caliber to our students.

We had a wonderful turnout for Open House on Thursday, May 10 for parents and guardians of students in grades K-3. This was an opportunity to celebrate student progress this year. Families also had an opportunity to create an addition to our Painted Rock Garden in the front of the school. Thank you to Anna Jo Gosses and Jane Ng for obtaining a PTO grant to make their vision a reality for everyone to enjoy.

Fourth graders completed their MAP assessments this week and students in Grades K-3 will finish next week. This will complete testing for the school year. Please check out the schedule at http://www.shaker.org/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=6GU00PB&dasi=23Y and avoid out of school appointments during the testing period.

We finally have weather that is allowing our students to enjoy recess and physical education classes outdoors. Students should wear appropriate footwear and bring a water bottle, if possible, to enjoy these activities to their fullest. Have a great weekend!
