Mercer students in Kindergarten through Fourth grade have or will begin assessments to help determine their current achievement levels. One of these is the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test for Mathematics and Reading which will be administered beginning the week of September 11. Data gathered from this computer based program is used to help facilitate instruction and ensure differentiation takes place within the classroom. MAP is administered three times during the academic year. The Fall assessment gathers baseline, the Winter assessment measures progress and the Spring assessment measures the student’s growth to that point. Please be certain your child gets plenty of rest, eats a nutritious breakfast and does their best on days when testing is taking place. Your assistance is truly appreciated.
If you have not already done so, please return all school forms that you received in your assignment mailing or curriculum night packets including: Free and Reduced Lunch Application; Emergency Medical and Enrollment Form (goldenrod): Student Alert Form (yellow); and PTO forms. The student fee of $35 is also due and may be paid online through or by check payable to Shaker Heights City Schools in the main office. If you are missing any of these forms please contact the office at 216-295-4070.
If your son or daughter is going to be absent or tardy please contact the office directly by telephone to share this important information.
Last week’s Curriculum Night was outstanding. If you missed the event please know it is never too late to follow up with your child’s teacher. The relationship between teacher and parent is a critical component to student success.

Volunteer for Mercer’s Fundraiser!
Our school’s ONLY FUNDRAISER , known as the Mercer Olympics, will be October 20 – 27, but there is a lot to be done before that can happen. Please attend a Mercer Olympics volunteer meeting on Monday, September 18 at 9:30 am in the Mercer auditorium. Learn more about the Mercer Olympics fundraiser and the volunteer opportunities that are available. Plus, be part of the amazing energy that makes our school so special! 
If you can’t attend the volunteer meeting, you will still be able to help. Volunteer opportunities will be available via Sign up Genius closer to the event.

Earn money for the Mercer PTO by participating in Heinen’s Teaming Up for Education Program. Simply register your Heinen’s Tasteful Rewards shopping card and select Mercer Elementary School to help raise funds for the Mercer PTO. 
You do not need to be a Mercer parent to participate. Please encourage friends and family to register their cards and select Mercer Elementary School as well. 
The Heinen’s program does require participants to register their Heinen’s Tasteful Rewards card and make a school selection each school year. You can register your card online ( ) or in-store at the Customer Service Desk. Specific instructions can be found  here.   
Heinen's will donate 1% on qualified purchases made between September 1 and April 30 to the Mercer PTO.  Thank you for considering this opportunity.  
Spirit Store Order Forms - Due on September 11.
Please remember to submit your Spirit Store Order Forms by Monday, September 11, 2017. This will be the only opportunity to order spirit wear for the 2017-18 school year, so don't miss out! Order forms may be placed in your child's folder or dropped off in the school office.  Here is another copy of the form.
PTO Meeting, Wednesday, September 13 at 7 pm in the Mercer Library  
Please join us for the September PTO meeting. Meetings are open to all parents and guardians. The evening begins with an update from Mr. Florence. We hope you will consider this opportunity to share your ideas and learn about all things MERCER.
Room Representatives Meeting, Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 pm in the Mercer Library    
There will be a brief meeting for all Room Representatives on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. You will receive the information packets and sign up lists from curriculum night, have the opportunity to ask questions and review room parent responsibilities. Did not have a chance to sign up but are still interested in being a room parent? Join us - all are welcome.
