From Mr. Florence
Mercer students in Kindergarten through Fourth grade have or will begin assessments to help determine their current achievement levels. One of these is the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test for Mathematics and Reading which will be administered beginning the week of September 11. Data gathered from this computer based program is used to help facilitate instruction and ensure differentiation takes place within the classroom. MAP is administered three times during the academic year. The Fall assessment gathers baseline, the Winter assessment measures progress and the Spring assessment measures the student’s growth to that point. Please be certain your child gets plenty of rest, eats a nutritious breakfast and does their best on days when testing is taking place. Your assistance is truly appreciated.

If you have not already done so, please return all school forms that you received in your assignment mailing or curriculum night packets including: Free and Reduced Lunch Application; Emergency Medical and Enrollment Form (goldenrod): Student Alert Form (yellow); and PTO forms. The student fee of $35 is also due and may be paid online through https://www.payforit.net/ or by check payable to Shaker Heights City Schools in the main office. If you are missing any of these forms please contact the office at 216-295-4070.

If your son or daughter is going to be absent or tardy please contact the office directly by telephone to share this important information.

Last week’s Curriculum Night was outstanding. If you missed the event please know it is never too late to follow up with your child’s teacher. The relationship between teacher and parent is a critical component to student success.
