Happy Fourth of July

If you were born and raised in the USA, or if you live here now, Independence Day -- the Fourth of July -- is a time to reflect on what this country means to you.

When it comes to the USA, Meredith feels equal parts misty romantic and indignant critic.

You can read his reflection (CLICK HERE).

What's yours?

One of the alarming and destructive trends since 1980 has been the receding of equality -- such a proud value in the history of our nation. At General Assembly last week, the delegates voted to select "Escalating Inequality" as our CSAI (Congregational Study/Action Issue) for 2014-2018. At CUC we will now begin exploring that issue together with our fellow UU congregations.

Week #27
Use Your Will

"Will is a context of commitment. Will is giving yourself over to your highest purposes, which lift you and carry you along. This kind of will feels like being pulled by inspiration rather than pushed by stubbornness. Surrendered rather than driven."

Love Reaches Out
and Thinking Together

Unitarian Universalist General Assembly and a Jewish wedding may not seem to connect on the surface, but for Perry this week they both spoke about the love that connects us, one of shared values and walking a path together while we reach out with our light. What's In a Name?

In the last couple months two of our neighboring congregations have officially changed their names.

Over in Stamford, CT, the "Unitarian Universalist Society in Stamford" voted in May to change its name to "Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Stamford."

In June, up in Croton, the "Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Briarcliff, Croton, and Ossining" renamed itself the "Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley."

Should Community Unitarian Church consider a name change? What do you think?

Next year GA is in Portland, OR -- Jun 24-28.

General Assembly is amazing fun, enriching, deepening, and transformative!

We hope you can begin planning now to attend.
