MERITFEST IS ALMOST HERE!


Merit's 27th annual MeritFest is coming up! On May 7 and May 14, our Merit Music in Communities students will come together for a large, end-of-the year performance. 

Join us at Symphony Center (220 S. Michigan Ave) and enjoy amazing performances from the talented musicans all around the Chicagoland area. 

GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING PERCUSSIONIST MATTHEW DUVALL PERFORMING ALONGSIDE MERIT STUDENTS

Four-time Grammy award-winning percussionist
Matthew Duvall  of  Eighth Blackbird  will perform a special, interactive concert at Merit School of Music alongside 25 Merit musicians. The program, "Child of Tree," will explore the relationships of humans to the natural world through energetic, nature-inspired percussion music and staged interactions. 

The program has been rescheduled to take place at  7:00 pm on  Friday, May 4 in  Gottlieb Hall. Tickets for the concert range from $10-20. Come see and support these students who will have the amazing opportunity to perform with Matthew Duvall during this event. Purchase tickets  here.

On May 18, Merit School of Music will celebrate two decades of Suzuki-Alegre Strings, and YOU'RE INVITED!

Student Success
Steven Baloue & Joshua Mhoon
 
Congratulations to Conservatory students Steven Baloue and accompanist Joshua Mhoon for winning both the local and regional rounds of the 2018 Talent Hunt Competition. As the winners of the local division of the competition earlier this March, Steven and Joshua represented Chicago at the Tenth
District regional level in  Novi, Michigan on  Friday, April 20th.  Placing in first again,  they will now progress  on to the international  level this July in New  Orleans.  Congratulations on  your success and Merit  wishes you the best of  luck this summer!

Henry Lunn

Conservatory Senior Henry Lunn participated in  Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago's Spring Master Class with renowned coach and pianist,  Martin Katz.

Anton Escano
Congratulations to Conservatory senior Anton Escano for winning first place in the senior division of the 
NWSMTA Awards Competition on April 15th. Anton studies with Ms. Elena Doubovitskaya in the Conservatory and will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne  to study piano performance in the fall.

Merit Board Member Raises Over $4,000 Participating In Special Event!
Associate Board member, Nishad Parmar, participated in a Dincert (dinner + concert) on April 14th, raising over $4,000. The event featured a variety of Indian classical music, including Nishad's performance on the Tabla. Thank you for your support and creativity!
