A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF FULLER SOUTHWEST
Tom Parker
Tom officiating his son, Zach's, wedding

"Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord GOD, and not rather that they should turn from their ways and live?" (Ezekiel 18:23)

"Say to them, As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from their ways and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?" (Ezekiel 33:11)

These verses are probably not your "go to" scriptures when it comes to Christmas and Advent.  But maybe those verses deserve a second glance in this season where

we remember that God took on flesh,

we know that LORD is present to us through the Holy Spirit,

and we look forward to the return of Jesus Christ.

God's interest, or perhaps better, God's pleasure is that all of us should live.  That is why Jesus hangs out with sex workers and traitors (a.k.a. tax collectors) so that they might know life.  That is why Jesus offers grace to the woman caught in adultery so that she can live and sin no more. That is why Jesus touches lepers and even brings people back to life.

It is also why Jesus dies for us, all of us. So that he might give us life. It is why Jesus is raised for us, so that the generous reign of our Lord might be proclaimed.

God's pleasure is that we should live.

Blessings to you and your family during this advent season,

Tom Parker

"I have thoroughly enjoyed...
Bertrand Family
...my first quarter at Fuller in the Marriage and Family Therapy degree program. I prepared myself to give it my all as I went into the program, but ended up receiving twice as much back spiritually and academically. Not only have I gained so much knowledge through the materials, teaching, and discussions, but I have also grown emotionally and spiritually through it all. Fuller has become a strong source of nourishment to me. It is 'life giving' for a person who is in ministry, a wife and mom of three busy kids. My professors bring different and unique perspectives as they teach the material and because they teach from both their head and heart, they are so impacting to me! My experience at Fuller has enriched my life and I am deeply grateful!"
