Quick Fact

Did you know that  Merry Christmas  is "Felices Pascuas"  in Chile?  AND, the children call Santa "El Viejito Pascuero"! (translation: "the old religious holiday guy").

Prayer Requests

* Give thanks for a successful disaster training conference directed by Ross Johnson (LCMS Disaster Relief) and the Chilean pastoral team (including Jim) to 30 seminary students from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

* Pray that God directs us in our search for property  on which to build a ministry center for the 2 mission plants started in Santiago.

* Pray that Liisa's back pain goes away.  During the process of the move, she must have lifted something that has caused discomfort in the lower back.

* Give thanks that our children all had Happy Thanksgivings in the USA and pray that our long-distance Christmas will be filled with God's Spirit of Comfort & Hope.

* Give thanks for all the new contacts that have been made at our mission outreach events.

*  Give thanks for GLO missionaries the Liska family and their 2 years of service in Chile.  Pray that God will guide them as they return to Argentina in January.

Liisa leading kids in song in church.

"I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE."

(Jer. 29:11)

Over the past year, we have have many opportunities to wonder if this verse still applies to us. So many doubts: Chile is so far from our family - can we leave our children 'alone'? Can we leave our parents and siblings? Can we still be effective missionaries? The Global Lutheran Outreach sending model is so different - will people support us? Does God really want us here?

Though we are still discovering what it all looks like, we know that God has plans for us. Not only that, but He has plans for so many people in Chile - plans to give them HOPE and a FUTURE through Jesus Christ! Christmas is all about announcing and celebrating the arrival of HOPE - born in a manger, born to live and die and to rise again for you, for me, and for every person in Chile and around the world. Together, we are ambassadors of Hope! That's the plan He has for us.

 The Plan Unfolds...

"I have plans for you, says the Lord..."  After a year of waiting to get to Santiago, it's exciting to see those plans unfold.   First,  God directed us to a wonderful apartment to rent which is under 10 minutes from church.  Then, we got internet which made the connection to our family in the USA a little easier!  At the same time, the church members and friends are becoming our new family.  Each week the friendships grow stronger as we participate in Bible studies, music classes, evangelism outreach, and visits to the sick and troubled.  Jim is even doing a weekly radio program in December on a community radio station! You can listen via internet (in Spanish) on Wednesdays from noon - 1:00 pm Santiago time at radio el sol de la florida. The program is called "Mejor Vivir", part of the Lutheran Hour programming in Santiago.

One of the most convincing acts of God this last month was the arrival of our shipment from Florida.  Each detail - from our Christian friend who organized things from Ft. Lauderdale , to the long journey through the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, to the helpful customs officers who worked around the fact that we did not have all the official paperwork - was in God's hands!  We give Him thanks for all our "stuff"....which includes  a set of handbells that the Lutheran Church of Chile is thrilled to learn to play to the Glory of God!
