DECEMBER 2016

It's December. The month of snow (hopefully), holidays, end of year tasks, and one more month to do something for your health in 2016. Read the tips and exercises below to motivate you to the end of year finish line.
PT TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Now that we are past Thanksgiving, the holiday season is in full swing. This means different things to each person, but to a physical therapist, it means a repetitive chorus of the following:

"I'm sore, because I didn't have time to do my stretches or exercises."
"I'm sore, because I spent a lot of time in the car/in airports."
"I'm sore, because I was lifting presents/suitcases/a large tree."
"I'm sore, because I was on my feet a lot cooking/decorating/dancing."
"I'm sore, because I wore my new fancy shoes to the mall/holiday party/cookie exchange."
"I'm  sore, because I was sleeping on a lumpy sofa bed while we were traveling."

Notice a theme here? While PTs don't have the answers to all the holiday aches and pains, they do have some advice to help stave off your physical pain (the mental pain that your family gatherings cause is a different story).

THE 10,000 X 3 CHALLENGE RESULTS

Well, what can I say. Our 10,000 x 3 Challenge  for November was a FLOP. The staff at PTIS challenged themselves to collectively do 10,000 sit-ups 10,000 push-ups 10,000 squats but we needed your help to reach the goals.  We were only able to reach 72% of our goals overall BUT, that is not going to stop us from trying again soon....you can't get away from us :).
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO PARTICIPATED!!

CHARITY DAY SUCCESS!

On Saturday, November 5th, PTIS raised $1300 for Adaptive Adventures by offering self pay treatments, trigger point needling, TRX, Pilates, Massage, Balance Screenings, Functional Movement Screenings, etc. We saw 20 patients and had a great time.   THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO SUPPORTED THIS EFFORT.

PROFESSOR GOES FROM PT SKEPTIC TO BELIEVER
At first when Phern had knee pain she would literally "shake it off." But after a while, the pain in her left leg was too much to ignore.  Phern could barely walk. Even standing was painful, which was problematic for a professor who needed to stand for hours during classes.

Phern walked for exercise, enjoyed taking Zumba classes, and she had a trip to Europe planned. So when she learned that she had osteoarthritis,  Phern felt "shocked, depressed, and old." When an MRI showed degenerative meniscal tears,

Phern wondered if she would be able to continue to do the things she loved.  Her doctor recommended physical therapy, but  Phern was skeptical.
