Asian Community & Cultural Center Features Health, Fitness at Events
This past year the Asian Center (ACCC) has put special emphasis on health in its programing curriculum. Within their Minority Health Initiative, ACCC is providing education and medical services for managing and reducing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Addressing many cultures, the ACCC provides services in 15 languages.

In January the ACCC will celebrate the
Lunar New Year Festival at the Auld Pavilion at Antelope Park. Filled with activities that include cultural performances like lion dancing and fun for kids, the festival also offers health screenings for the adults.

Woods Tennis Center

Expansion Benefits Whole Community
Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln successfully completed the initial phase of it's capital campaign this September to fund construction of a new permanent indoor court facility, and expand the number of outdoor courts.
|
The November Turkey Tourney also raised funds in support of the Wood's mission of taking the game out to neighborhoods all over the Lincoln community.
This past summer Woods provided summer tennis lessons at 16 sites to over 1,200 children. Read more.

Preliminary Results Promising
Cancer Screening Project

Dozens of clinics representing primary care physicians in Nebraska have been participating in the project.
The data is now being analyzed with the preliminary results are looking promising. Look for the results in our January newsletter.

Goodbye and Thanks
Long time executive director of our partner, Community Crops, Ingrid Kirst, is leaving to pursue new interests. Ingrid was a vital part of expanding urban agriculture in Lincoln. She will still continue to be supportive of the Crops mission. Thanks, Ingrid, we'll miss you and best of luck in your new endeavors! Read the LJS tribute.

Welcome to new executive director of Crops, Ben McShane-Jewell! For the last three years, Ben has been the Crops Community and Youth Gardens Program Manager and representative to the PHL/Partner collaboration meetings.

Holiday Harvest, Dec.18,

Dozens of local farmers and producers provide an abundance of locally grown produce and farm products at the Holiday Harvest farmer's market. Producers will also have meats, cheeses, breads, jams, spices, and more. Located at the
Park Centers Banquet Hall, 2608 Park Blvd, Holiday Harvest is co-sponsored by Community Crops, Old Cheney's Farmers Market, and Lone Tree. More info.

December's Shape of the City features winter safety tips. Segments include the City of Lincoln, Fire Inspector on increased home fire danger in the winter months and Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County talking about child safety.
Other segments include Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln giving some simple tips on staying healthy and active over the holidays and in cold weather; and Prosper Lincoln talking about early childhood efforts.
Later this month on 10 Health TV and 10 Health You Tube, you can find the latest Community Conversation, a panel discussion on the changing landscape of healthcare in Lincoln sponsored by the Community Health Endowment of Lincoln. Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln (PHL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and fitness of our community. We collaborate with other organizations on joint projects to improve health by increasing physical fitness, promoting good nutrition, supporting breastfeeding, and improving cancer screening rates.
Our work includes improving health and wellness policies, conducting community level research, and evaluation of the success of local health initiatives.
