Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As you may know, PSEC offered a Safe Church Event in February led by Mr. John Ries, M.A., who has been trained by the Samaritan Counseling Center in Lancaster, PA. He shared information regarding the mandated changes in the PA Child Abuse Law and the required clearances for all people who come in contact with children/youth. Since these changes have a major impact on those who work and volunteer in our churches, John Ries, PSEC's Safe Church representative, and Donna Tomlinson, Executive Associate for Ministry and Conference Registrar, gathered information regarding the processes, requirements, and deadlines for the required clearances, as well as, information on mandated training, frequently asked questions and some helpful links. I encourage you to fully review the Information to help you Navigate changes related to the new PA state law, House Bill No. 435 - Prevention of Child Abuse and the PA Child Abuse Prevention Laws Update from the UCC General Counsel.

This is also a good time to take stock of where your church is as a "safe" church and review your safe church policy or develop one if you do not already have one.   John Ries, M.A. will be offering a Safe Church Policy training to PSEC churches who do not currently have a policy.  Mr. Ries is looking to work with eight churches beginning in May, 2015.  Training involves a commitment of 11 months, with a training meeting every other month.  At least three representatives would be needed from each church to participate in the training meetings.  If your church has an interest in being a part of this training, please contact John Ries at 610-301-4848 by April 17th.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. William P. Worley
Conference Minister
