June 9: Social Justice Book Club
A new book club will begin Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. in the MUMC  Parlor.  The purpose of this book club is to raise awareness of societal concerns by reading and discussing nonfiction books relevant to current social justice issues.  We hope this new book club will be a spark that ignites us to become more aware of current social justice concerns with a Christian perspective. Meetings will be held quarterly beginning with our first book discussion of The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander.  It challenges the conventional viewpoint that discrimination has mostly ended since the civil rights movements of the 1960s and provides an insightful perspective of recent events such a s Ferguson and similar cases. It will be available for order through the church office. For more information, contact Anne Gifford RN, D.Ed.Min., at [email protected] , or Melissa Clarke at [email protected] .
