Our mission is to help our students grow academically, socially, and physically,
to  be well-rounded and responsible citizens!  We will maintain a campus that provides a safe, positive, responsible,  and  respectful learning environment for students.
You are invited to be a PARTNER in the education of your child.
School & Home will support one another to create the conditions for  ALL TO SUCCEED !

Our goal is to move all students up one proficiency level in ELA and Math on  state testing.
Students who are already at the Advanced level will maintain that level of performance.  During the 2018-2019 school year teachers will use  Fountas and Pinnell data to design differentiated instruction.

We will maintain a campus that provides a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment for students.

OUR GOAL =
MOTIVATE TO  MAXIMIZE OUR GROWTH
Our mission is to help our students grow academically, socially, and physically, to be well-rounded and responsible citizens!

Welcome Back!
Let's Get Ready for a WONDERFUL Year!

We are excited to start the school year and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!  This year, we will continue to work together to support students in an outstanding school community, employing various instructional strategies that will engage students, addressing academic needs and social and emotional learning.

As your child's "first teacher," we appreciate the partnership we have with our families. You are invited to be a PARTNER in the education of your child. School & Home will support one another to create the conditions for ALL TO SUCCEED!

JPPSS has adopted a Tier 1 curriculum (judged to be "superior") for all schools in English, math, and social studies, using a curriculum that's received the top rating from the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE).  This curriculum includes the resources educators will use to teach students the standards they're expected to learn. Our teachers and administrator have been training on the new curriculum (which is rigorous) during the summer months, learning how to use these tools and using our expertise to create curriculum materials to meet our student needs. As OUR partner, we look forward to sharing information with you!

As a support for the safe, positive, responsible, and respectful learning environment for students, we invite you to join your child for lunch on Tuesday and/or Thursday, beginning September 4. Classroom schedules (including lunch times) will be discussed at Open House.

We are committed to maintain a campus that provides a safe, positive, responsible, and respectful learning environment for students. In order to prepare for an emergency, periodic drills will be held for fire, intruder, tornado, and other events. Please know that we will always make you aware IF we need to relocate (because of an emergency) and where we will reconnect you and your child! (alternate location)

SUPPLY DROP OFF
Tuesday August 7th- 3:30 pm-5 pm
Families are invited to come to school and get LOTS of valuable information, including bus and carpool details as well as other school organizational offers.
Teachers will be waiting to meet and greet students in the classrooms, where supplies can be dropped off. Bring labels or a Sharpie to place/write on your child's supplies.

Families will receive MANY pieces of information next week and we ask that you take the time to do your homework and read both the Metairie Academy Handbook as well as the JPPSS Policies & Procedures and sign the provided acknowledgement. Students must return a SIGNATURE PAGE, indicating the acknowledgement of these policies.

*It is expected that before & after school care registration is completed FOR ALL STUDENTS.  In order to provide the safest arrival and dismissal, please adhere to the procedures for arriving to school as well as departure from our campus.

We ask that students know how they will be dismissed BEFORE reporting to school and the dismissal procedure does not change throughout the day.

A few reminders:
Carpool line is supervised by teachers beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 8:30 a.m. Students may be dropped off as early as 8:00 a.m. and must be dropped in carpool line and enter the building through the gate on Lake Avenue. Vehicles should not park or be left unattended in the line during carpool, 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
When the bell rings at 8:30 a.m., any students arriving will need to be walked to the office, accompanied by a parent, in order to receive a tardy slip. There will be NO TEACHERS on duty after the 8:30 a.m. bell.

The carpool sign, displaying student name, should be displayed clearly from the rear view mirror. The sign should remain until the child is inside the car. If there is no sign, your child will not be called. Pull ahead as soon as your child is safely in the vehicle. If you "cut" the line, your child will not be called until the line has ended.

Cell Phone Usage: According to Louisiana state law, while driving through a school zone, it is unlawful to use your cell phone or mobile device EXCEPT for an emergency.

Early Dismissal -August 29-12:45 p.m. NO AFTERCARE
In order to accommodate our Professional Learning Clusters (Teacher Learning), students will DEPART 2.5 hours earlier later on August 29th, September 19th, October 31st, &
February 13. These dates, noted on the JPPSS School Calendar, will allow time for us to work collaboratively in order to achieve better results for our students.

After School Activities
We are expecting MANY (new & old) after school activities to begin soon. These will offer numerous opportunities for student enrichment AND remediation. Please look out for more information about these events. Alert: ALL students who choose to participate in any after school activity MUST be registered for aftercare.

Pull-Tabs for Charity
Pull for the House
One of the easiest ways to help the House
 is by collecting pull tabs!
This important program helps fund various household expenses at Ronald McDonald House. Families pay $10 per night for their stay, but it actually costs the house $68 per night to house each family. The pull tab program helps supplement those costs, including buying food for the house pantry and providing gas for the house van.   Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it's more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier.
(This program helps others)
