  October is Youth Protection Month!
Youth Protection training is required for all registered Scout volunteers and must be completed every two years. At all times, youth safety is the number one priority. At the same time, adults need to know the rules for keeping themselves safe, too. Comprehensive Youth Protection training teaches all the do's and don'ts of working with youth. The training is offered through the Online Learning Center, or it may be taken as part of a district or council training course.

Walk with God (Dearborn)
Join Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on October 22nd to visit the Islamic Center of America and other sacred places in Dearborn, Michigan.  We will explore each faith and how each religious community supports our Promise to Serve. More info

Webelos Den Day (Birmingham)
On October 29th Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts are invited to join a variety of activities that will help them along in their advancement. The event will be staffed by local Boy Scout Troops, giving the younger youth a chance to meet current Boy Scouts and learn about the exciting adventures ahead of them. More info

Scouting for Food (Southeastern Michigan)
On Saturday November 5 and November 12, the Boy Scouts of the Michigan Crossroads Council and the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan are partnering with Gleaners Food Bank to collect over 1 million pounds of food to those in need in our communities. More info

Fire Saftey Merit Badge (Ypsilanti)
Earn your Fire Safety Merit Badge at this 1-day workshop on November 5th at the Michigan Firehouse Museum & Education Center. Boy Scouts will learn how to use fire safely and how to prevent fires. More info

Discover SCUBA (Grand Rapids)
Come out on November 12 and Devember 29 For Adults, Boy Scouts and Venturers who would like to learn more about SCUBA Diving and how to become a certified diver. Scouts and Adults must be comfortable in the water and able to swim as this activity will take place in deep water. More info

Webelos Engineering Day
Join us on Sunday, November 13th from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM and complete your Webelos Arrow of Light Elective Engineer Adventure! Webelos Engineering Day is an activity hosed by Tau Beta Pi, MI-Gamma, The Engineering Honor Society at the University of Michigan (, that allows Cub Scouts to come to campus and complete their Engineer Adventure. Become an Aquanaut
Scouts will have the opportunity on November 18th to earn the Aquanaut (New Program).  This will be a round robin type of program.  Scouts will proceed station to station and will stay with their den.   More info

Jamboree on the Internet
October 15-16, 2016

Jamboree-on-the-Internet, or JOTI, is an annual international Scouting event sponsored by the World Organization of the Scout Movement. 
Who Can Participate?
Scouts of any age can take part, from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and Venturers. 

When Is It?
JOTI begins on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 00:00 hours local time (midnight Friday), and will end on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 24:00 hours local time (midnight Sunday).

STEM Adventure
USDA Labs - Brighton, MI
October 22, 2016
Boy Scouts will experience hands on study and work with Merit Badge Counselors and USDA officials as they learn and earn the Insect Study Merit Badge.  This badge is one of the requirements to earn the Dr, Bernard Harris SuperNOVA Award - and this opportunity will fill fast, so book the date and register now!  Event runs Noon to 4:00 pm in Brighton at the USDA labs and is open to all Boy Scouts.

CUB SCOUT "Science of Skating"
Science Everywhere Nova Award @ Roll Haven Skating Arena
October 24, 2016  6:00 - 8:00 PM
Scouts will learn about the parts of a roller skate and their function, and 
 will learn how to work together on planning and strategies needed to rebuild a disassembled roller skate through hands on activities. Scouts will have the opportunity to explore ways to improve the design of a roller skate or roller blade components using the principles of Science and Engineering.

November 5, 2016
Nova Counselors and Michigan Science Center instructors will work together to provide a hands on experience for Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts.  Cub Scouts and Webelos will get hands learning while achieving the Nova 1-2-3 Go!  award in the morning sesson.  The afternoon Nova Award sessions for Boy Scouts will be Designed to Crunch and Numbers Don't Lie.  All participating Scouts will have an outstanding practical experience as they work on these awards.  Only 60 spots for each session - register now!

Science After Sundown 
Ann Arbor Hands on Museum
November 12, 2016
Join the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum for an evening of science and engineering. Work on your NOVA Swing! Award as you  discover all of the exciting exhibits the museum has to offer. Cub Scouts and their families will enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum including 250+ exhibits, dinner, and a NOVA Swing! Award Workshop. $30/Scout, $25 for parents and siblings.
Environmental Science and Chemistry Merit Badge Day
Hope College - Holland, MI
November 12, 2016
Scouts will spend the day earning either the Environmental Science or the Chemistry Merit Badge in a state of the art facility, led by Hope College instructors.  This full day course fee includes a snack, all program materials and supplies, and will have Merit Badge Counselors on site to facilitate and sign your blue cards.
A free parent information meeting and a Nova Counselor Training will take place from 9:00 - 10:00 am for all adults interested in learning more about the STEM Nova Program and the MCC STEM Program for Scouts.  We will also offer the Nova Counselor Training for anyone wishing to become a Counselor for their unit.

November 19, 2016
Join us as we explore simple machines and how they make our lives easier every day. Experiment with methods of lifting heavy loads with ease, identify simple machines at the park, and create an item that will complete a chore for you. Cub Scouts will be working on their Swing! NOVA Award, and Boy Scouts & Venturers will be focusing on the Whoosh! NOVA Award. $10/Scout
