To date, Cultural Affairs has awarded over $10 million in grants to approximately 130 diverse not-for-profit arts groups, which contribute so richly to the artistic landscape of the City, proving that the Council plays an integral leadership role in supporting, promoting and advocating the unique and extensive scope of cultural offerings in Miami Beach.

Julian Orb�n's String Quartet (1951) will open the program. Orb�n (1925-1991) was a Cuban composer who lived and composed in Spain, Cuba, Mexico, and the United States. We will close with String Quartet #1 (1948) by Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983). An Argentine composer, Ginastera is considered one of the most important 20th-century classical composers of the Americas.

In 1961 the conceptual artist Piero Manzoni rattled the art world by canning his own feces and making them available for sale, pricing the cans by their weight in exchange for the current value of gold. Senator Richard B. Stone served as Florida's second and most recent Jewish U.S. Senator (1975-1980). Stone's foray into 40 years of public service began as Miami City Attorney, however, when a new Florida Senate seat was created in 1967, it was a winning coin toss that solidified his entry into the political arena.
