2015 Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremonies
MBPD Remembers Our Fallen Brothers and Sisters

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. MBPD also participated in several local and state memorials, including the Miami Beach Police Memorial Ceremony. This ceremony honors our seven fallen officers.  The ceremony was hosted outside of the Miami Beach Police Station at our dedicated memorial.

2015 Kindergarten Cops!
MBPD & PAL Thank All Kindergarten Cops

MBPD and PAL hosted a "fun fair" as a graduation present to all the kindergarteners who have worked hard all year learning about gun safety, calling 911, stranger danger and what it means to be part of the Miami Beach community. Our kindergarten cops visited the children in their classrooms throughout the year and created relationships built on trust and respect. Our goal has been to make the first interaction these children may have with police officers a positive one. The life lessons we share with them aim to help them make good choices in the future and avoid destructive ones. Click here for more photos!

Let's Walk The Neighborhood
MBPD Hosts Monthly Community Walks

"Neighborhood walks" have assisted residents in identifying problems within their communities. Once the concerns are identified, city personnel suggest methods of resolving them.  If you and your neighbors would like to put together a walk, please email Deborah Martineau at [email protected] for more information. Together, let's keep our neighborhoods safe!

Homeless Issues?
Meet the MBPD HRO's

Did you know the Miami Beach Police Department has two dedicated officers to assist with our homeless population?  That's right, Officer Llamoca and Officer Lantigua are the homeless resource officers. These officers work closely with the city's Homeless Outreach Office in an effort to provide assistance to the homeless.

If you are experiencing issues with the homeless in your neighborhoods, email our homeless resource officers directly.  Remember, if your matter requires immediate police attention you must always dial 911.

Is Your Pet Micro Chipped?

Micro Chip Your Pet, Ensure They Return Home.

Traditional modes of identification, like pet tags or ID collars, need to be replaced regularly, can slip off, be removed or become hard to read, but microchips last for the lifetime of the pet. Your cat or dog's microchip implant gives your pet the best chance of returning home to you if lost. However, a microchip must be registered along with your current contact information in order to identify you as your pet's parent.

Obey the Laws, Share the Road
Police Enforcement of Bicycle & Pedestrian Laws Underway Citywide

Pedestrians:

Obey all traffic laws. If no sidewalks are present, walk against the direction of traffic to see oncomingvehicles. Always use the crosswalk. Push the button to get the walk signal. Be visible. Wear bright, reflective colors on your clothes, shoes, belts and wristbands.

Motorists: When passing a cyclist, keep a three-foot distance between your vehicle and the bicycle. Look out for approaching cyclists before opening your car door when parked.

Cyclists: You must follow traffic rules of the road including traffic signals. Ride in the same direction as vehicles and yield when making turns. Yield to pedestrians when riding on a sidewalk. No bike riding on Lincoln Road between 9 a.m. and 2 a.m.

Lock Your Scooter

Don't Give Thieves A Chance

Scooters are a fun and economical method of transportation around the city. Unfortunately, due to their size and mobility they are often targeted. Here are several tips you can take to prevent your scooter from being stolen.

  • Park you scooter in a well-lit area.
  • Secure your scooter and lock the steering.
  • Use more than one lock and different ones. This will deter the thief from attempting to tackle multiple locks.  Ensure the rear tire has a lock that will deter the scooter from being moved at all.
