Kosta Browne Pinot Noirs Are The Hardest To Get Wines From California

We Have A Tiny Allocation Of Michael Browne's New Project

You must try this wine! The wines of Kosta Browne are the hardest to get in all of California. Ever since their Pinot Noir was the number one wine on Wine Spectator's Top 100 in 2011. Michael Browne with his partner Dan Kosta started in the restaurant business, became a sommelier, then started making wine and his Pinot Noirs are at the pinnacle and I say again impossible to get. Michael has now turned his attention and decided to make the finest expressions of Rhone Varietals in California. The result is the most delicious, viscous, huge and elegantly long Syrah. The 2009 Jemrose Cardiac Hill Syrah by Michael Browne highlights the man's genius at wine making. Jemrose is located in a sub appellation of Sonoma called Bennet Valley and it is believed that the greatest of all Cali Syrah's will come from Bennet Valley. It is southeast of Santa Rosa and extends to the northernmost edge of Sonoma. The Cardiac Hill Vineyard has received big notoriety with Carlisle's Syrah bottling garnering 95+ point scores by Parker. Bennet Valley is also one of the smallest appellations with only 900 acres under vine. The valley is actually a rolling benchland ranging from 450 to 1100 feet in elevation. The who's who of Premium winemaking are sourcing from Bennet Valley, Tor, Novy, Morlet, Merry Edwards and David Ramey. It's cooler than the Russian River, ideal for Rhone Varietals. Jemrose is owned by Jim Mack who owns twenty acres, including the Cardiac Hill Vineyard, sells grapes to Carlisle. If you walk up the vineyard a couple of times, you will know where the vineyards name comes from. With this huge potential he was extremely lucky to get Michael Browne to make the wine. The result is a great wine that is on the up. We were lucky to get some! We also were able to a small amount of the 2010 Jemrose Egret Pond Vineyard Viognier. Our Pricing on both wines are strong. The Syrah is averaging 92 pts on Cellartracker which is huge. Pundits have not rated yet.

Tasting Notes

2009 Syrah Cardiac Hill Vineyard

Tasting Notes: Fragrant aromas of dark berries, smoked meat, white pepper, violets, with a hint of graphite. The texture is elegant and silky, not heavy, and coats the palate with rich flavors of dark berries, dried cherries, graphite and grilled meats. The finish is focused, persistent and offers great balance and purity of fruit.

2010 Viognier Egret Pond Vineyard

Tasting Notes: The nose explodes from the glass with a complex mixture of honeysuckle, pineapple, orange blossom, jasmine, lemon curd and white peach. A creamy texture in the mouth provides flavors of tropical fruits, mandarin oranges and crème brulee. A crisp acidity complements the rich extended flavors and ends with a touch of minerality.
