BAYLiN'S GIFT
Did you see us at BAYLiN'S GIFT in Kempsey in January? It was great to catch up with the young people of Kempsey as well as having the opportunity to network with other service providers.
There were some great activities and it looked like everyone there had a lovely day!
BAYLiN'S GIFT is a Charity committed to providing support to the young people on the Macleay in the areas of mental health and well-being, and self-acceptance.

From Work Placement to full time Apprentice!
In 2017,  Domenico Cristallo, a student from Great Lakes College Tuncurry Campus, attended Taree TAFE one day a week to study Automotive as he really wanted an apprenticeship. As part of his course Domenico needed to complete 35 hours of work placement and he asked Mid Coast Connect to approach Great Lakes Nissan.

Richard, the Service Manager for Great Lakes Nissan, firstly met with Domenico before committing to host him for his week of work placement.  The meeting went well and Richard welcomed Domenico  to the team.

After time spent working at Great Lakes Nissan, Richard and his team were so impressed they offered  Domenico an apprenticeship.  He started work immediately after finishing Year 10 and in 2018 has officially been signed into an Automotive apprenticeship and is working very successfully on the job and at TAFE.

Thank you to Great Lakes Nissan for hosting work placements and giving young people like Domenico the opportunity to enter the industry.
What is Work Placement?
Work Placement enables senior school students studying particular industry-based courses to practise and develop their industry competencies and their employability skills in a vibrant real work context.
Work placement is a mandatory component of industry-based vocational education and training (VET) courses that students can choose as part of their studies for the NSW Higher School Certificate.
Mid Coast Connect actively supports business and industry to provide 'hands on' workplace learning opportunities for students.

Hosting students allows you to:
  • participate in the education, career development and vocational training of young people in our community
  • talk to students about your industry, career paths and future directions
  • promote the attitudes and skills you want in your workforce
  • identify young people with potential for your industry
  • strengthen your links with the community and raise your business profile
  • increase the supervisory, training and mentoring skills of your staff
  • give students knowledge of the value of work and raise the quality of those coming into your industry
New host employers are always welcome. Want to know more or host a student?
