Careers expos a success

Mid Coast Connect has wrapped up our Mid Coast Careers Market and Coffs Coast Career Connections for 2018 and thank everyone for their support.

1000 students attended the Mid Coast Careers Market held at a new venue, the Glasshouse in Port Macquarie. Sixteen schools and over 70 exhibitors attended including our sponsors Port Macquarie Hastings Council, TAFE NSW and Charles Sturt University.
Drones, plaster casting, woodworking, horses and virtual reality glasses were just some of the  interactive activities students were able to experience in this great venue.

The Coffs Coast Career Connections was held at the Coffs Harbour Racing Club and over 1000 students attended. 60 exhibitors displayed and interacted with students and were able to get up close and personal with Professional Practitioners including surveyors, architects, accountants, engineers, doctors, occupational therapists and paramedics. Thanks to Coffs Harbour City Council, Greater Bank and Mid North Coast Local Health District for sponsoring this great event.

LINKS TO LEARNING
Students from Hastings Secondary College - Westport Campus have been participating in the Links to Learning program. The 'Healthy Mind, Body & Soul' program aims to improve student engagement with their learning and assist those at risk of leaving school early.

DRUMBEAT: Students participated in a circle of DRUMBEAT facilitated by Headspace over a 10-week period. DRUMBEAT is a program that assists in building resilience through rhythm. Participants learned drumming skills and worked as a team to perform a beat for staff and invited parents.

Recycled Bikes: Cameron Bate facilitated an 8-week program where participants were able to work on rebuilding rundown bikes. Students learned how to use specialised tools and structured bike mechanics. Their project was to repair a dragster bike and on completion was donated to Willing and Able for a fundraiser.
