Pretzels with the Police

The Police Department is excited to announce an all new community event - Pretzels with a Cop! This unique twist on Coffee with a Cop will provide the same opportunity for the public to meet with members of the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD), but it will also feature officers making pretzels for the attendees. Some lucky children in attendance will also get to help make the pretzels!

Please join the MTPD on December 29th from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Philly Pretzel Factory (1506 E. Lincoln Highway) for some pretzels and hot chocolate. The officers are eager to share a snack while discussing any concerns or thoughts you may have on the community.

  • The budget is balanced
  • The Township plans a $1.5 million investment in repairing and repaving roadways as part of the 15-year Road Improvement Plan
  • The Township plans traffic improvements with a Traffic Adaptive System along Business Route 1 - the grant-funded system adjusts traffic signals to efficiently improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion
  • The Police Department will change its data and reporting systems to better track areas of concern and direct patrols to improve the safety of areas in need throughout the Township

Grant Awards

Middletown Township has recently been awarded multiple grants that will translate to improvements throughout the community. The grants provide essential funds to complete significant projects to enhance safety and the local environment. Below is a brief description of the work planned for each awarded grant.

A Green Light Go Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will provide $290,630 for an exciting project that will improve traffic conditions along Business Route 1. Partnering with Falls and Lower Makefield Townships, the Township will install a traffic adaptive system that uses cameras to determine congested areas and coordinate traffic signals to steady the flow of traffic. A more-detailed description of this project is available in the November E-News.

A grant for $12,500 from the PA Department of Conservation of Natural Resources will allow the Township to replant trees around the intersection of Queen Anne Creek and Mill Creek in Levittown. Much has been written and discussed about the Township's efforts to remove trees killed by Emerald Ash Borer infestion, but replacing those trees is also important. This grant will allow the Township to maximize its replanting efforts to this critical watershed region.

A Growing Greener Grant for $175,000 was just awarded by the PA Department of Environmental Protection and will offset the cost of important stormwater management efforts in the Township. The funds will be used to modify five drainage basins to improve their ability to hold and slow water flowing into the Neshaminy Creek. The improved retention will reduce the amount of sediment flowing into the creek.

The Township consistently seeks grant revenue as a way to provide these improved services to residents.

Snow Removal
For the benefit of pedestrians, the sidewalk in the Wesmere Country Club of Joliet, Illinois is cleared of snow after a November snowstorm.

Winter is coming, and the first snow of the season has already fallen. Past editions of the Township E-News offer helpful reminders to ensure that snow is removed properly. The Department of Public Works would also like to remind residents what to do in the event that a mailbox is knocked down while snow is being removed.
  • The owner must submit a written claim to the Department of Public Works at 700 Veterans Highway, Levittown, PA 19056 within 48 hours of the snow event
  • An authorized representative from the Township will perform an inspection of the damage to determine if it was caused by a Township vehicle
  • If it is determined that damage was caused by a Township vehicle, the owner will be offered $50 for the cost of a new mailbox - the Township does NOT repair or replace mailboxes
Please note that all mailboxes must be securely fastened to a sturdy post and must meet the postal guidelines of being at least 8" from the curb and between 42" and 48" in height. Any mailbox that does not meet these specifications or shows signs of decay or prior instability will not be considered for reimbursement.

If you have any questions about this policy or other aspects of snow removal, please contact the Department of Public Works at 215-750-3800 ext. 3301.
