Community Leader Retires

Long-time Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Debby Lamanna is set to retire on March 2nd after a highly influential career in public service.

A Township resident, Debby began working for Middletown in 1990 running the summer recreation program. She was later tasked with launching a full-time Parks and Recreation Department. Building from the ground up, she developed quality programming for Middletown residents of all ages. She was instrumental in working with the Board of Supervisors and Township staff to create some of the Township's most celebrated community events, such as the 4th of July Parade, Earth Day, and the Holiday Open House. Debby also played a pivotal role in working with the Board of Supervisors to preserve open space and develop parkland throughout the Township, leading to many great accomplishments such as the acquisition of Spring Valley Farm, the creation of Middletown's first skate park, and the development of Veterans Park and Chris Jones Memorial Park, among many others. These efforts led to the Township earning several awards for programming and open space during her tenure.

In addition to her work in Parks and Recreation, Debby extended her influence into community services. Debby served on the board of Bucks County Safe Kids and as an integral member of the Middletown Community Foundation. She also was a founding member of the Middletown Citizens' Service Corps and the Neshaminy Coalition for Youth, both organizations that improve the lives of Middletown residents. Her many contributions to the community earned her the Community Service Award from the Bucks County Community Foundation in March of 2017.

As Debby's career in Middletown winds down, she prepares for her future endeavors and will move to Florida for the next chapter of her life.

Debby will be recognized at the February 20th Board of Supervisors meeting. Please join us in thanking Debby for all she has done to make Middletown a great place!

New Citizens' Traffic Commission
Traffic lights over blue sky. Green light

The Township has launched a brand new initiative for residents to address their traffic and transportation concerns, and applications are currently being accepted for those interested in joining.

On February 5th, the Board of Supervisors voted to create a Citizens' Traffic Commission. This new advisory group will consist of 5 appointed residents supported by the Township Administration, Police Department, and traffic engineer. They will serve as a central point of contact for the community's traffic and transportation concerns. As an issue is brought to their attention, the Commission will work with Township staff to assess the nature and extent of the problems and develop solutions to recommend to the Board of Supervisors.

The Township and the Board believe the new Commission will help streamline the process of traffic concerns. The Commission will "work with Township staff and Police to make sure we're addressing the priorities of the residents first," said Chairperson Amy Strouse, adding that it will provide a structured way to triage information and get input from the community.

Any resident wishing to serve on the commission should apply no later than February 23rd. Applications can be found on the Township website and should be returned to the Municipal Center.

Eagles Pep Rally

On February 2nd, hundreds of residents and fans joined the Board of Supervisors and Township staff for a pre-Super Bowl pep rally. Supervisor Tom Tosti led the eager crowd in chants and cheers as they showed the community's Eagles Pride. Former Eagles running back and current Middletown resident Vaughn Hebron stirred up the crowd, and there were appearances from cheerleaders and football players from Neshaminy High School and youth sports groups, the Uptown String Band, the Eagles Gamer Bus, and the Langhorne Middletown Fire Company.

Thank you to all who joined us for this exciting event and cheering the Eagles on to a Super Bowl victory!

A Dangerous Trend

Incidents of a highly dangerous activity have recently circulated on social media. The "Tide Pod Challenge" dares individuals to put a laundry detergent pod in their mouths and record a video of the results. This activity places them at risk of ingesting highly toxic chemicals. Additionally, young children as well as elderly citizens with dementia have also reportedly ingested the pods, and the results can prove deadly. If you have such laundry detergent pods, please make sure they are in a secure location where they cannot be ingested by those who might be confused, and please explain the dangers to adolescents and young adults who may have seen the videos on social media. If you believe someone has ingested the chemicals in a pod, try to remove the pod, wash their face and hands, gently wipe out the mouth, and contact Poison Control at 800-222-1222.
