Reorganization Meeting

In 2017, some familiar faces will be seen in new positions at public meetings. On January 3rd, the Board of Supervisors held their annual reorganization meeting where positions were determined, the meeting schedule was approved, and board and commission vacancies were filled.

The Board selected Tom Gallagher as the Chairperson for 2017. The role of Vice Chairperson will be filled by Bill Oettinger, and George Leonhauser will serve as Board Secretary.

The Board of Supervisors meeting schedule was also set for 2017. The full schedule has been publicly advertised and is also available on the Township website.

Donations for Skate Park

Waste Management makes a generous contribution in December
Do you or someone you know have a love of skate boarding? Are you or your business interested in helping local youth restore a popular recreation facility? Then this is a great opportunity to help the community!

The Middletown Skate Park Committee is raising funds to build a new Middletown Skate Park. The new facility will be a concrete plaza style park that is preferred by skaters and will be built on the site of the old skate park at Community Park that served the community well for over 12 years.

In December, the Board of Supervisors accepted a $10,000 donation from Waste Management to kick off the $200,000 fund raising campaign.

The Middletown Community Foundation is accepting online donations for the park at www.middletowncf.org. When completing the donor form, designate your donation by typing Middletown Skate Park in the box at the bottom of the form. Check with your family and friends to see if anyone works for a company that will match the donations!

If you would like to help or have any questions, contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 215-750-3890.

Polygraph Training

etective Aileen Torrente of the Middletown Township Police Department has joined a highly selective group of law enforcement officers throughout the nation who have completed polygraph training. The ten-week course was offered in Philadelphia by the Academy for Scientific Investigative Training. Topics included psychophysiology, interviewing, ethics, research, and many others that are geared toward training participants as professional forensic psychophysiologists. Detective Torrente even took an additional week of training geared toward sex offender testing.

The challenging course included classes every day and tests every week. Completing the program is an impressive and rare accomplishment, as Torrente is only the third member in the Middletown Township Police Department's history to complete the program.

This achievement will allow her to conduct polygraph tests during investigations. "I am very proud of Detective Torrente for graduating from this program," praised Chief Joe Bartorilla. "This was an extremely difficult program and is a great accomplishment for her personally as well as for our department."

Tax Information

This month, Middletown residents will receive their Earned Income Tax packets from Keystone Collections Group. Included in this information will be instructions and due dates for filing 2016 Earned Income Tax returns.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any who filed their taxes online last year will receive their information via email. No hard copy will be mailed, so please look in your email inboxes, including spam filters, for the email from Keystone later this month.

If you have any questions, please contact Keystone at 724-978-0300 or refer to their Frequently Asked Questions webpage.

Identification Cards for Kids

The Middletown Township Police Department will soon provide a child identification card system, a new service geared toward enhancing child safety. Next month, parents will be able to secure a photo ID for their children that can help a lost or missing child find home.

This system will take a current photo of a child and place it on a card that includes the child's name, height, weight, eye and hair color, date of birth, and thumb print. It will also include the issue date of the card, and cards should be renewed every year with updated photos and measurements. The card will be the size of a credit card, making it easy for a child to carry.

This program is free and available to all Middletown parents. The system will be available at all Police Department community events. Residents who cannot attend may also acquire an ID card by appointment at the Police station. For questions or additional information, please email Community Relations Officer Melissa Robison or call 215-750-3876.

Clearing Snow from Sidewalks
For the benefit of pedestrians, the sidewalk in the Wesmere Country Club of Joliet, Illinois is cleared of snow after a November snowstorm.

As snow has become more common the past couple weeks, the Township staff would like to remind residents that they must clear their sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow storm. Homeowners with property on the corner of a road are responsible for the entire corner sidewalk, including the portion in front and along the side of their homes. Residents may see the Township Ordinance on clearing sidewalks and footpaths for additional clarification.

For further information on snow events, shoveling, and road clearing, see the article in the December 2016 E-News.
