Citizen Summer School

The Township's latest program begins this week!

Citizen Summer School is a new FREE series of workshops that will teach residents important information, including internet safety and privacy, recycling and sustainability, and reducing energy use while saving money on the electric bill. Each session will include expert speakers, informative take-home guides, and light refreshments! Babysitting will also be available.

The first session is Internet Privacy and Security for Seniors. On June 28th at 4:30, join us for a discussion about how to avoid scams, identity theft, and other risks of internet. Representatives from the PA Attorney General's Office, Comcast, Verizon, and the Middletown Township Police Department will all participate.

The other two scheduled sessions are for all ages, and include sustainability and energy efficiency. On July 26th at 6:30 p.m., residents can learn about everyday activities that will help the environment and make the community more sustainable. The energy efficiency workshop on August 16th at 6:30 p.m. will teach attendees how to reduce their energy footprint while saving money on electricity. Like the internet security session, both of these events will include expert speakers.

All sessions will be held in the Municipal Center, 3 Municipal Way, Langhorne. For questions, please email Tim Adams or Scott Sadowsky or call 215-750-3800 x 1176.
4th of July Parade

Please join us for the 7th Annual 4th of July Parade! On Wednesday, July 4th, the community will gather in honor of Independence Day as the Parade sets out from Veterans Memorial Park (700 Veterans Highway) at 9 a.m. and continues to Twin Oaks Park on Trenton Road.
This year's parade will feature a variety of local bands and musicians, so come to enjoy some live music while marching or watching the Parade!

People from throughout the community will march in their patriotic clothing and decorated bicycles and strollers, and all community members are encouraged to participate. Please see the Parks and Recreation website, for further information. We look forward to seeing everyone as we celebrate Independence Day!
Internet Sale Safe Zone

The Township now offers a safe zone for residents making exchanges from online sales. When arranging sales with individuals on marketplace websites, many are concerned about safety in dealing with strangers when meeting to complete the purchase. It is often advised to meet in a public place when possible. Middletown residents will now have another safe place to make these exchanges - the Police Department lobby. Please note that this option is only available during the Township's regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays.

Fireworks Laws
Fireworks in sky twilight. Fireworks display on dark sky background. Independence Day 4th of July Fourth of July or New Year.

With the 4th of July approaching, some may have noticed that Pennsylvania laws recently changed to make the purchase of fireworks easier. In the interest of ensuring the community a safe and enjoyable Independence Day, the Office of the Fire Marshal would like to remind residents of several important laws and regulations regarding fireworks:
  • Fireworks may NOT be set off from any public or private property without the owner's permission
  • Fireworks may NOT be set off in or from any motor vehicle or building
  • Anyone using fireworks must be 18 years of age or older
  • Fireworks must be set off at LEAST 150 feet from any home or business
Please remember these regulations as you have a safe and happy 4th of July!
Grass Cutting Reminder

An important Code Enforcement reminder for all residents - during the summer months it is very important to follow the property maintenance ordinance for cutting grass. All property owners are required to prevent excessive growth of grass and plants on their property. Make sure that weeds are removed and grass is cut on a regular basis throughout the growing season. Failing to do so can lead to a letter of violation from the Code Enforcement Officer and possible fines and court costs.

Additionally, properties on the corner of a road are required to trim back any trees or bushes that may interfere with visibility of motorists at the intersection.

If you have any questions, please contact Code Enforcement at 215-750-3800 x 1111.
