Holiday Open House

It's time to join your neighbors and celebrate the holidays with the community! The Middletown Township Annual Holiday Open House will be held on Thursday, December 1st, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. That evening, the Municipal Center will open its doors for the public to enjoy performances, activities, and other holiday festivities.

The Neshaminy High School Orchestra and the Holy Family Regional Catholic School Choir will both perform holiday music in the Public Hall throughout the evening. Local Girl Scouts will run an arts and crafts table while also doing holiday-themed story readings. Families will also get to enjoy face painting, balloon animals, horse-drawn carriage rides, and of course, a visit with Santa!
All residents are asked to bring one non-perishable food item as a donation to the local Bucks County Food Pantry.

We look forward to seeing everyone and celebrating the holidays together!

Holiday Indoor Marketplace

Looking for a great place to find local vendors for holiday shopping? Interested in helping children in need? Then this brand new event is for you! The Middletown Township Police Department and Parks and Recreation Department are excited to bring you the Holiday Indoor Marketplace!

On Saturday, November 19th, from noon to 6:00 p.m., come to the Municipal Center to find 30 of Middletown's local vendors in one convenient place. A wide range of products will be found, including food, jewelry, home decorations, and holiday crafts.

Residents will also have a chance to win prizes while giving back to the community! Each vendor has generously donated an item to be raffled off, and proceeds will be split between two Township programs aimed at helping children in need. Shop with a Cop pairs children with a police officer who will take them gift shopping. Each child will receive a $100 gift card to purchase gifts for family members. Send a Kid to Summer Rec offers the chance for children to join the Township Summer Recreation Program. Both of these programs can greatly help improve the experience of some of the most disadvantaged children in the community.
We look forward to seeing you on the 19th!
Yard Waste Collection

Weekly yard waste collection will end after this month for the winter. From December through March, residents may place up to five bags of yard waste - which includes leaves, grass, clippings, branches, fruits, or other yard and garden material - with their regular trash disposal to be included in their ten-container limit.

Weekly yard waste removal will resume in April. Please see the Township website for additional information.

Holiday Shopping Safety

With the holidays fast approaching, the Police Department wants to remind you to stay safe while shopping for friends and family. Highly crowded spaces can cause safety concerns, and the risk of theft can increase when large amounts of money and merchandise are present. The Department offers several tips to help ensure that you and the rest of the community can shop without incident:
  • Do not carry large amounts of cash
  • Keep an eye on your belongings - do not leave purses or wallets sitting in a car or shopping cart
  • Do not leave shopping bags easily visible in your car, as this could tempt someone to break in
  • Be mindful when in parking lots - there will be additional vehicle AND pedestrian traffic
  • If shopping at night, park in well-lit areas
  • If you are making large purchases or traveling for the holidays, notify your credit card company ahead of time so they can determine what activity is intended and what is suspicious
  • Stores will be crowded, so please be respectful of other shoppers and store staff
Remember, everyone wants to enjoy a nice time with their loved ones for the holidays, so please be sensible and aware of your surroundings.
Budget Presentation

On Monday, November 14th, Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls presented the 2017 Proposed Budget to the Board of Supervisors and the public. With hard work from staff and input from the Board at three public budget workshops, the Administration provided details about the expected revenues and expenditures for the upcoming year. The presentation included the following highlights:

  • NO tax increases were proposed
  • The budget has been completely reformatted to consolidate line items, creating a more user-friendly budget that is transparent and allows the public to better compare yearly appropriations
  • The Township has paved more than 45 miles of roadway in the last three years, and the proposed budget continues the Road Improvement Program with a request for $1.5 million dedicated to road paving in 2017
  • The Township aggressively seeks grant revenue to aid capital expenses or improve services to residents, with over $3.2 million brought in over the last three years
  • Total operating expenditures total just under $30 million
  • Capital expenditures total nearly $6 million, with road improvements, storm sewer projects, and vehicle replacements among the largest categories
  • The Earned Income Tax generates 36 percent of the revenue in the General Fund, with another 20 percent coming from the Real Estate Tax
  • The Township's portion of the Real Estate Tax only accounts for 9 percent of Middletown Residents' Real Estate Tax bill, with the remainder going to the County and School District
  • Police Protection is the largest category of General Fund expenditures at 51 percent, followed by Employer Paid Benefits (18%) , Public Works (8%), and Administration/Finance (8%)

The 2017 Proposed Budget is now available for public viewing, and it can be found on the Finance Department websiteThe December 5th Board of Supervisors meeting offers the first opportunity for the Board to consider the Final Budget for 2017.

Camp Out for Hunger

This is a challenging time of year for families who struggle financially. In the Greater Philadelphia area, nearly one in four people are not always certain where their next meal will come from. Helping those in need is an important foundation of the community. This newsletter has already included ways residents can help, but we can always do a bit more.

This year, Middletown Township will participate in the largest single-location food drive in the entire country! The Preston and Steve Camp Out for Hunger, named for the morning radio show, is in its 19th year of collecting food donations for the largest hunger relief organization in the region, Philabundance. Each week they serve approximately 90,000 people, many of whom are children and seniors, through specific programs and assistance to local food pantries and shelters, including many in Bucks County. Last year, the Campout for Hunger brought in over one million pounds of food!

To donate, look for the marked box in the police lobby. Please note that only certain items can be accepted. Items most in need include cereal, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and tuna, and other similar items that will last. Items such as peanut butter should come in a plastic container, no glass. Beverages, seasonal items, and unhealthy snacks are not accepted. More information on the Campout for Hunger and requested food donations can be found here.

Please contact Officer Melissa Robison or Scott Sadowsky with any additional questions. Donations will be accepted until November 29th, and the food will be delivered on November 30th! Thank you in advance for all your support for those in need!
