Holiday Open House

The annual Holiday Open House is almost here! Join your neighbors and celebrate the holidays with the Middletown community on Thursday, December 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. when the Municipal Center will open its doors for the public to enjoy performances, activities, and other holiday festivities!

The Neshaminy High School Orchestra and the Bucks County Women's Chorus Carolers will both perform holiday music throughout the evening, while local Girl Scouts will run an arts and crafts table and perform holiday-themed story readings. Additional activities will include face painting, balloon animals, horse-drawn carriage rides, up-close looks at fire trucks, and, of course, visits and pictures with Santa!

All residents are asked to bring one non-perishable food item as a donation to the local Bucks County Food Pantry.

We look forward to seeing everyone and celebrating the holidays together!

Indoor Marketplace

The Indoor Marketplace returns on November 18th! Come visit the Community Park Barn for a day of holiday shopping with local vendors and supporting the community.

The event will run on Saturday, November 18th, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy live music, food, and shopping opportunities with over 50 local vendors! A large number of vendors will lead to a wide range of products available, including food, jewelry, home decorations, and holiday crafts.

Residents will also have a chance to win prizes while giving back to the community! Each vendor has generously donated an item to be raffled off, and proceeds will be split between two Township programs aimed at helping children in need. Shop with a Cop pairs children with a police officer who will take them gift shopping. Each child will receive a $100 gift card to purchase gifts for family members. Send a Kid to Summer Rec offers the chance for children to join the Township Summer Recreation Program. Both of these programs can greatly help improve the experience of some of the most disadvantaged children in the community.

We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!

Grant for Traffic Control
Traffic lights over blue sky. Green light

The Township is excited to begin installation of a new, networked camera system to manage traffic signals along parts of Old Lincoln Highway and Oxford Valley Road. Called an adaptive traffic system, the cameras will be able to monitor the current traffic volume at intersections and change traffic signals to better aid the flow of traffic. In other words, the system can tell if there is a backup at an intersection and keep several consecutive lights green to allow the congestion to pass through.

The adaptive traffic system will be funded by a Green Light Go Grant from PennDOT, and is being completed in cooperation with Falls Township and Bristol Township. Construction is expected to be completed by June 2018.

Small Business Saturday

Saturday, November 25th, is Small Business Saturday! People throughout the Township and across the nation will give well-deserved recognition to the local businesses that support our community, help the economy, and provide nearly half of the private sector jobs throughout the country. Citizens and advocacy groups agree on the importance of supporting these independent businesses that do so much to support local neighborhoods. The Township encourages residents to remember Small Business Saturday when planning your holiday shopping.
Yard Waste Collection

Weekly  yard waste collection will end after this month for the winter. From December through March, residents may place up to five bags of yard waste - which includes leaves, grass clippings, branches, fruits, or other yard and garden material - with their regular trash disposal to be included in their ten-container trash limit. Throughout the month of January, Christmas trees will be collected on Wednesdays - remove all decorations and do not place them in plastic bags.

Weekly yard waste removal will resume in April. Please see the Township website for additional information.

Shop with a Cop

Shop with a Cop will return on December 3rd! This Police Department program aims to help disadvantaged youth shop for the holidays for their families. Children will be paired with officers and receive a $100 gift card from Target to purchase gifts for their loved ones. This year's event will be done in partnership with the Lower Southampton Township Police Department and will be even bigger than last year.

All donations, big and small, are welcome. Every $100 helps sponsor an additional child. If you are interested in helping these children and their families have a positive experience for the holidays, please email Officer Melissa Robison.

Recycling Grant Program

Middletown Township is completing a program to improve recycling in apartment complexes throughout the community. Funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Township will provide recycling bins to participating apartment complexes to be used by their tenants. Additionally, all apartment complexes will receive educational materials about recycling. While apartments already have recycling containers alongside dumpsters, the goal of this program is to increase the number of renters who place their recyclables in the right place to protect our local environment.

All containers and materials will be distributed after Thanksgiving.

Drug Take Back Day

On October 28th, locations throughout the community participated in the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration's Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Unused prescription drugs pose a risk of falling to children or others who can develop addictions, and safely disposing of them is a key to fighting the opioid epidemic. The Take Back day was a huge success, as residents from across Bucks County dropped off more than 10,000 pounds of medications! This represents the highest total ever brought in by the County.

If you missed this opportunity to get rid of prescription drugs, you have the opportunity to drop them off at the Municipal Center every weekday! The Township has a drop box in the lobby, and residents may get rid of their unused medications when the building is open between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
