New Citizens' Traffic Commission

The Township is excited to announce a new resource available to the community - the Citizens' Traffic Commission (CTC).

Created by the Board of Supervisors earlier this year, the CTC serves as a central point of intake for all traffic concerns in the community. The Commission consists of five appointed members of the public supported by representatives from the Township Administration, Police Department, and traffic engineer. The Commission meets quarterly to discuss traffic issues and work with staff to recommend solutions to the Board of Supervisors.

With the CTC in place, residents and the business community have a streamlined process available to have their traffic concerns addressed. When issues are brought to the Township staff, they will be placed on the agenda for the next Commission meeting. The CTC will assess the nature of the problems, often with data from the Police Department or traffic engineer, and the group will prioritize projects that address the community's most important traffic needs. Recommended projects will later be presented to the Board of Supervisors for consideration.

"We are very excited for the Citizens' Traffic Commission," said Board Chairperson Amy Strouse. "Their work will make sure that we address the priorities and needs of the community first."

For further information about the CTC, please contact Scott Sadowsky at 215-750-3800 x1176 or by email.
2018 Road Improvement Program

The 2018 Road Improvement Program is underway! The proposed project was approved by the Board of Supervisors during the winter, and James D. Morrissey, Inc., was awarded the bid. This year's program will mill and repave 7 miles of roadway while also constructing approximately 60 sidewalk ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The roads selected for 2018 are as follows:
  • First Street, Second Street, Third Street, Fourth Street, Darrah Street, and Middle Avenue in Langhorne Gardens
  • Sandybrooke Drive and Bellaire Avenue in Sandybrooke
  • East Woodland Avenue in Langhorne Gables
  • Gartner Lane and Mt. Misery Lane in Parkland
  • Harding Avenue, McKinley Avenue, Reetz Avenue, and Wesley Avenue
  • Service Roads to North & South Route 1 Super Highway
  • Community Park and Municipal Center parking lots
The repaving is scheduled to run through the summer.
Getting Involved Through Community Events

Did you know that there are several Township events throughout the year that encourage businesses to participate?

The Annual 4th of July Parade is an excellent way to get involved in the community. The parade runs from Veterans Park (700 Veterans Highway) to Twin Oaks Park on Trenton Road. Now in its 7th year, the event is one of the largest hosted by the Township each year. Any business or organization wishing to participate either by marching or sponsoring should contact the Parade Committee at [email protected].

National Night Out is an annual event that promotes the relationship between police departments and communities all across the United States. On August 7th, the Middletown Township Police Department will host a block party at the Municipal Center parking lot where families and community members will meet Township staff and Police, view demonstrations, and interact with local businesses. Any businesses interested in participating or sponsoring the event should contact Officer Melissa Robison at [email protected].

There are several other great opportunities to get involved in community events later in the year and into the beginning of next year. There are still opportunities to help sponsor the new Skate Park to help Middletown youth replace one of the Township's popular recreational facilities. Please contact Director of Parks and Recreation Paul Kopera for more information. Additionally, the Holiday Open House in December, Earth Day in April, and the Sports Block Party in May all seek business sponsors and participants. Contact Patrick Graham for further details.
Important Reminder from the Fire Marshal

Did you know that uncleaned air ducts can trigger a fire alarm? Particles moving past the duct detector can be mistaken for smoke, and an alert may be sent to the fire departments. To prevent these false alarms, please remember to take the following actions:
  • Remember to clean the ducts annually to prevent any buildup
  • Ensure that the duct detector sends a supervisory signal prior to activating the fire alarm - this signal would notify you to monitor before alerting the fire company, and would only go directly to the fire company if two detectors are activated. Supervisory duct detector alarms also should shut down the HVAC system so that it would not move smoke throughout the building
