Dear Members and Friends,

It is with sadness and a heavy heart I put the finishing touches on our October newsletter.  I sit down to the computer today to double check spelling, to review dates and times, and to make sure all of the links are working properly. However, I find it difficult to focus on these mundane tasks, when we as a country have much greater issues at hand.  As if all of the devastation from the hurricanes wasn't enough to test our strength and faith, we now have the tragedy of Las Vegas, and the on-going desire for world peace. Yet, here is what I know.  We must tap into our inner spirit, our strength of character.  We must hunker down and stay the course.  We must keep spreading love and kindness.  We must show compassion to our fellow citizens.  We must contribute to the overall wellness of our community and our country through small efforts in our towns, like a grass roots movement.  Help a neighbor. Give blood.  Visit an elderly relative.  Volunteer at the local library. Call an old friend and say, "Hello, I just called to say I am thinking of you."  These simple gestures are free, they are easy to complete, and they go a long way to building a stronger community. The more tragedies we endure, the stronger and more resolute we must respond with togetherness and with a sense of love, compassion and kindness.  So, it is in the spirit of lifting each other up, I ask, "Help one person at a time, and start with the person nearest you."

With Health and Happiness,

Melissa O'Toole

The ladies weekday intra club winter league is open for registration. Please email Sandra

show up for fun tennis. The cost for this program is $20 per player, and the day of the week you
play is based on your Suburban team or NTRP:

Tuesday,  Suburban A or 4.0-4.5
Wednesday, Suburban B or 3.5
Thursday,  Suburban C or 3.0
The season runs November 28th - March 2nd on courts 5 & 6. No matches will be scheduled the week of
Christmas Day, New Years' Eve or New Years'  Day. Weekly match times are: 9a-1030a; 10:30a-12p and 12- 130p, if needed, depending on the number of participating members.

Rules for this league:
1 player per court, please pick up the new tennis balls at the front desk for your match.
When you arrive on court, 1 of the 4 players must text Sandra Mason the names of all
who have showed up to play (regularly scheduled players and subs).
You must try to find a sub if you cannott play at your scheduled day / time. If you cannot find  a sub by 9pm the day prior, you must email the other 3 players scheduled and copy

Anyone that is not a member of this league and subs four or more times will be charged $10  after the 4th match they sub in.
After your match, please leave the tennis balls on the tennis desk for the for the pros to add to the teaching  basket.
We look forward to providing this benefit to our Gold members again this year!
Please note:  If the men of MAC are interested in setting up a similar league on Mondays and /or  Fridays, please email Sandra. She will keep a list of those interested and notify everyone if at
least 8 men have interest in starting a men's weekday intra club winter league. The cost would  be the same as the ladies' league.

Cross Training for Endurance Athletes

Private Yoga Personal Training Sessions
Why invest in yoga personal training? A private session allows for a more intimate view into YOUR practice. You can start a new practice, deepen your current practice or spend some time working with an injury or specific goal or concern.

Injuries and health concerns can make a normal yoga class impractical for some participants. A yoga instructor teaching several students at one time cannot focus on individual needs or ensure that the poses will not further injure or strain a particular person. Furthermore, health concerns like pregnancy, diabetes or heart disease may require special alterations to one's yoga practice.   When health concerns are a potential issue, it is best to have a private yoga lesson with a properly trained Yoga Therapist. This can aid in working around the problem, avoid further complications, and help to ease pain or lessen the effects of a certain diagnosis.

T he MAC fitness department announces that yoga personal training sessions are now available and offered by MAC yoga instructor and certified Yoga Therapist, Shannon Somogyi.  If you are interested in exploring a deeper, personalized yoga practice, for any reason, please stop by the fitness desk or the front desk to get in touch with Shannon.  Read Shannon's biography below to learn about her training and credentials.

Fall swimming activities in the Aquatics Department are in full swing, with Swim Clinics, Group lessons, Masters Swimming and Poseidon Swimming all sharing water in our pools.  It has been wonderful to have the outdoor pool open and available during this warm weather spell, but as the cooler weather creeps in, please remember to share a lane when necessary.  We always have two lanes available for member swimming~ even during our busiest times.  But there may be times that lap swimmers may need to double up and share a lone.  Thank you for understanding!  If you would like to participate in our Swim Clinics or Masters Swimming, pro-rated prices are available for late-season registrations.  Email  [email protected]  for more information.

Additionally, Poseidon Swimming will  host a Trunk or Treat event in the lower parking lot on Friday October 20th at 5:30pm that will be open to ALL MEMBERS as well!  There will be drink specials in the cafe afterwards, for those of you who would like to unwind after all the fun.  Look for more details coming soon!
