Reminders and Announcements

Facilities Care Morning
We are having a Facilities Care Morning this Saturday, November 9 from 8:00 am to noon. There will be a dumpster by the maintenance shed (near the gym, where the animals are). We will be getting rid of things around the school that are "dumpster-worthy" and also doing anything in general that can be done to clean up the campus for the winter. We have rakes and some leaf blowers, but feel free to bring your own equipment too! Childcare will not be provided, but children are welcome to help or play, with your supervision.

November Parent Conferences
The deadline for submitting a day and time preference for a parent/teacher conference is this Friday, November 8. After that date the schedule will be finalized and parents who have not made a specific request will be assigned a conference time on either Saturday, November 23 or Monday, November 25. Confirmation of conference day and time will be sent via email a week beforehand. Thank you for getting your request in to Kay Alexander or Kirsten Updike before the November 8 deadline.

Emergency Operations Plan
As part of the continuation of making our campus as safe as possible, there will be a drill in the next couple of weeks with the students where they will be taking cover in the classroom because of suspicious activity of a person outside on campus. Also as part of our emergency operation plan, we are asking all visitors to the campus to please sign in at the Middle School or High School office. The layout of our school campus provides very unique challenges when we attempt to provide as safe an environment as possible. It is not our intention to inconvenience any of our school community members as we work to not compromise the safety on campus or the mission of the school. We appreciate your understanding the steps that we are taking to accomplish these goals.

Financial Aid for 2014-2015
It is again our intention to provide financial aid awards in January when re-enrollment agreements are sent out. Awards are confirmed in April after tax returns verify information provided in the financial aid applications. School and Student Services (SSS) is open as of November 1 to accept applications. SSS sends their assessments to Kimberton Waldorf School. The financial aid committee members take these assessments into account along with budgetary constraints when making financial aid award determinations. Please feel free to apply online for financial aid anytime between now and January 15 at sss.nais.org. If you have any questions, please call Allyn Weiser at 610-933-3635 ext. 120 or e-mail her at aweiser@kimberton.org.

Diwali Festival
Our Diwali festival on Saturday, November 16 is fast approaching. We still have some volunteer slots to fill; please contact Lael at admissions@kimberton.org, and she can let you know what we need. We also still need lots of saris, scarves, and festive cloth for decoration. Please contact Aparna if you have any items to lend. We also are collecting any bangles, bindis, or incense as part of our welcome blessings. Please pass along any donations to Lael. Also, if you have altar items to lend that are not too fragile, we would love to add them to our ceremonial space.

Seven Stars Shop
The Seven Stars Shop grand opening was a success! Many people came to shop or just say hello and see the new space in the Parent Hub (lobby of the Gymnasium). The shop is now open every Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The shop will also be open on Sunday, November 10 from 12:30 to 4:00 pm during the All-School Open House.

Care Circle
The Kimberton Waldorf School Care Circle has been meeting again this year. The Care Circle is a group of faculty and staff tasked with overseeing the social and emotional health of the school. This group meets weekly to form a confidential place and process through which questions, issues, and concerns of a social nature between, among, and surrounding the students can be brought to the school for discussion and resolution. This group is a resource for student, faculty, and parent concerns, and is meant to be a group that is both responsive to and proactive in its work surrounding these issues.

Pennsylvania Eurythmy Ensemble
This November, the Pennsylvania Eurythmy Ensemble will be on tour in the northeast region of the United States. The tour kicks off right here at Kimberton Waldorf School on November 15 with three programs for our students. An evening performance will be held on November 23 at Rose Hall. We encourage you to take this opportunity to catch a glimpse of what this art form is all about. It is, after all, a key component of the Waldorf curriculum. Click here for details.

Earn Cash for Our School
Through March 22, Kimberton Waldorf School has the opportunity to earn cash through the Giant A+ School Rewards Program. Please click here to designate our school on your Giant BONUSCARD. Alternatively, you can email your BONUSCARD Number to us at eshaker@kimberton.org and we can complete the registration for you. Save the Date
The Parent Education Committee is pleased to present a workshop on Media Consciousness in the Digital Age, on Monday, November 18 at 7:30 pm. With the guidance of experienced professional Harlan Gilbert of Green Meadow Waldorf School and Sunbridge Institute, we will discover how media affects a child's brain development and how all parents, regardless of their personal parenting philosophies, can work together to support the children and the work of the school. Refreshments will be served. Please contact Beth Packard with questions.

All-School Open House
On Sunday, November 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm we will be hosting our first All School Open House of the year. Please invite your friends, family, and neighbors to experience a taste of what Kimberton Waldorf School has to offer. We strongly encourage all of you current parents (and students) to attend as well. For the first time in a long while, we will be offering mini Main Lesson sessions in Lower School, Middle School, and High School; we welcome you to come and experience for yourselves some of what takes place in our classrooms. We also provide childcare in our Kindergarten for children ages 3.5 to 7 years of age, with advance notice. For more information or to RSVP, contact Admissions Director Lael Rasch at 610-933-3635 x 108 or by email at admissions@kimberton.org. We are also still looking for volunteers to help make this event a success; feel free to contact Lael with any offerings.

OUR MISSION

Kimberton Waldorf School is dedicated to nurturing the developing child in accordance with the educational principles of Rudolf Steiner. The school supports the unfolding individuality of each child by awakening the child's capacity to meet the world, others, and the self with warmth of heart, clarity of thought, and strength of purpose. It is also our mission to build a diverse community where the spiritual in each human being is recognized and to create social forms that ennoble human striving.
