"Milarepa Center has been an important sanctuary...for myself and my daughter."
Liz and her daughter Heather with Geshe Konchog during Kopan Vermont, Milarepa Center, July 2015
My name is Elizabeth. I have been a Buddhist practitioner for about fifteen years. I am a single mother of three teens. I work as a scientist and professor. I live in Deerfield Beach, Florida where I am a student of Geshe Konchog Kyab.

I have completed three retreats at Milarepa Center. The first retreat was in the autumn of 2014. I went to heal from a failed relationship. I knew Felicity, the director, from Tubten Kunga Center. Milarepa Center was a suitable place to go into retreat. I stayed in the Chenrezig cabin. I slept like a baby - a first in a very long time. Peace permeates the place.

The second retreat was to close the door to 2014 and bring in 2015 in a really positive way. I normally attend the New Year's Eve fire puja at the beach but Geshe Konchog Kyab was in India so I took to the hills of Vermont instead! It was an intensely purifying experience - and also very cold compared to Florida!!

The third retreat was this summer, 2015. My fifteen year old daughter and I spent some time touring New England after which we went into retreat at Milarepa Center. It was a wonderful mix of Lam Rim, meditation, stories, silence, and laughter.

We both got so much out of it.

Like many, in my life, I have seen much joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, gain and loss. My spiritual practice has carried me through - particularly those times when I had so little, when I had to take life one breathe at a time. A teacher once told me that if I really wanted to benefit others, the best thing to do is my spiritual practice. Retreat is a vital part of this. Milarepa Center has been an important sanctuary for healing, realization, purification and learning for myself and most recently my daughter.

I support Milarepa Center by attending retreats and with my ongoing monthly Friendship. We all need a home to rest and restore our wearied spirits. Milarepa Center is such a place for me.
