History & Literature Come Alive!

This week featured one of the most challenging and fulfilling school projects undertaken by our students each year.
Over the last few weeks, culminating on Thursday and Friday, the children have engaged in decision making, planning and performance as they selected their characters in history or literature and then set out to portray them.

On Thursday afternoon, we hosted our Annual Living Wax Museum which featured our Upper Elementary Students. Each student had selected and researched an important person in history and on Thursday presented their person's story to the assembled guests. The 4th and 5th year students created trifold poster boards, while our 6th years created digital presentations. Each student was required to read their well-researched report about a pivotal moment in their person's life.

From scientists to inventors, politicians to ballet dancers, athletes to chefs, the students did an incredible job of engaging the more than 100 visitors on Thursday afternoon, sharing what they'd learned with all who came to listen! Congratulations to our students and a HUGE thank you to all of our guests who helped to make the atmosphere a joyous one.

On Friday morning, our Upper Elementary Students shared their research with our younger students. Kinders and Lower Elementary classes made their way through the museum, stopping to learn about the people selected to study this year.

On Friday afternoon, our Lower Elementary Students took part in our Annual Amazing Authors Project. Selecting characters from favorite books, they dress the part, and present clues to their fellow classmates, who must then guess who they are! The Lower Elementary students also take tours of the Living Wax Museum, visiting the older students' project areas.

Our Kinders have been working on identifying main characters in their stories they are reading aloud. They have also been exploring the setting, problem, and solution involved in stories as well as discussing the differences between fiction and nonfiction.

Last week, their homework assignment was to choose a favorite character from their favorite book and discuss these story elements.  On Friday, each Kinder student dressed as his/her favorite character. At noon, they marched in a parade as parents, family and friends look on.  At day's end, our Upper and Lower Elementary Students showed off their costumes in one last parade. Fun was had by all!

Thanks again to our great staff and parent community for all the support you've shared to help our students succeed.

Please help us find our lost silverware!
Has your student come home with silverware that doesn't belong to your family?

Maybe he or she brought home an extra fork, or one that doesn't match the rest of your cutlery?

Please return them to school! Our kitchen is missing forks & spoons and we miss them very much.

Thank you for packing forks and spoons for your students with their lunch!

After School Activities

This Tuesday was our last day of Obstacle Course Club!
We would like to say a big thank you to Ta'mara Salomon for organizing such a fun, new after school club, and to Ms. Tana for being an awesome co-coordinator.

Adventure Club  made the best of this rainy week and went to the Audubon. They spent half their time inside learning about the animals that the Audubon takes care of, one of those animals being the Snowy Owl, and the other half of their time discovering wildlife outside of  the center.
Club members, please note:
Next Wednesday, November 1st, will be the last day that this club will meet.
