2009 Las Rocas Garnacha
(100% Grenache)
"Almost opaque to the eye, with a riot of red fruit on the nose. On the palate concentrated notes of strawberries and red cherries with a dash of black pepper in the background; with time suggestions of fine Swiss chocolate come to the fore. A broad-shouldered wine at 15.2% alcohol(!) - but this one displays the poise of an Olympic gymnast. Reminds me very much of a full-throttle California Zin - but at half the price of what a California producer might ask. An absurd value, and one to purchase by the case."
Binny's Tasting Note
"The 2009 Las Rocas is 100% Garnacha sourced from 80-year-old vines from the DO of Calatayud with 25% of the wine aged in wood. It is a forward, savory, ripe, succulent offering that should prove to be a crowd-pleaser. It is an outstanding value that will deliver enjoyment over the next 5 years."
