June e-Newsletter, KULA Yoga Port Angeles
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

One month has gone by since the re-Opening of Kula Yoga and things have been coming together swimmingly! I want to extend a huge thank you to you, for being a part of the Kula Yoga community. This studio simply cannot survive without amazing Yogis like yourself, people committed to self-care and personal investment.

We've seen a number of changes over the past 4 weeks, and it seems like we're getting into a groove! My plan is to send out a monthly e-Newsletter to keep everyone informed, and this is the first one! It's a simple template, but there are likely to be kinks and strange things going on, so I humbly ask for your patience, and thank you in advance! If you come across something weird, please let me know so I can figure out how to fix it. Same goes for the website, the Facebook page and the MINDBODY website. There are some things I can't see as the consumer, so please feel free to contact me. Again, thank you!

I'll take a moment here to mention a few things, so we're all on the same page.

1. MINDBODY Online
There is no longer a paper sign-in sheet. Your teacher will sign you into our online Point of Sale system when you arrive. Please feel free to inquire about how many classes you have left on your pass, or when your pass is set to expire. Did you know that you can create your own profile online? You can track your class history, purchase class passes, reserve a spot in class, buy and send Gift Cards, and manage your account, all from the comfort of home! Click here and you will be taken to the MINDBODY webpage to get started.

*Please be on time for class. It is very distracting if you walk into a class late. Also, we need the time to sign you in, and get you a spot in the studio. Class sizes are growing quickly, and sometimes it takes rearranging of mats to get you all in! And on that note...

2. Reserving Classes
Our student base is growing quickly, and some classes have begun to reach capacity. It's not necessary to reserve your spot online, however, it is an option. Classes are on a first come/first served basis, and if you've made a reservation, you will have priority. Two things you should be aware of: Only 5 places per class have been set aside for reservations, and students with a reservation must arrive 10 minutes prior to class. If there is a wait list, the reserved spots will be opened up to those who are physically at the studio. Please keep in mind, these stipulations are being put into place for future situations, when we are maxing out classes regularly. We do not want to be turning anyone away from practicing. If it's a matter of one or two extra students, we will do our best to squeeze you in!

3. Mirrors
You have probably seen that there are mirrors in the studio now. This is a work in progress. All the mirrors so far have been salvaged from old projects, and I'm hoping to collect more. The mirrors looked much bigger before they went on the walls, and I'd like to see more of that back wall covered when possible. If you know of anyone with large mirrors they're looking to part with, please send them our way!

4. Rental Mats
There is no cost to rent our mats. If you borrow one for class, please spray and wipe it down afterwards, and hang it to dry on the red ladder-type thing in the props area. The more you practice, you will probably prefer to have your own personal mat. (Guess what? Vicky sells Yoga mats at her bike shop, only a few doors down!)

What's Happening in June?
Win a FREE pass!
For the entire month of June, every class you come to is another opportunity to enter a ballot into the draw!  You may enter your own name, or someone else you'd like to see win a pass! At the end of June, we will announce the lucky winner of a 1-Month-Unlimited Yoga Pass! Good Luck everyone!

Karma Flow Yoga
Don't forget about the Karma Power Flow class,  Friday nights at 5:30pm! Bring a donation of any size and proceeds collected will be taken to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society. We will also gladly accept non-monetary donations like food and other items deemed useful to their cause. We'll soon have a bin at the front to house these items. Check out their website and see what they're up to in the community! Olympic Peninsula Humane Society

Ladies Hip Hop
This class has been well-received so far! It's lots of fun, the choreography is simple and the environment is supportive and light-hearted. No dance experience is needed. Bring clean shoes and comfy clothing you can move in.

Where are we Headed?
If you've had a chance to hear even a tidbit of what I've got planned for this Yoga community, you'll know that I'm committed to creating a vibrant environment, offering a diverse Yoga education to people of any level and/or ability.  I'm up to BIG things in this little town of Port Angeles!!  Over the next few months, we will continue to be in a state of change and here are some things you can expect to see happening:

-A new name by the end of the summer, complete with a new look, signage, and branding
-An Urban Garden in the back courtyard, along with bike racks, outdoor seating, and beautiful raised garden beds
-Full use of the restored hardwood floors for studio space; transforming the back entrance, complete with a new reception area and Tea Lounge
-Pre-natal classes, Outdoor Yoga, Yoga retreats, 30-Day Yoga Challenges, Kirtans Concerts and other intimate-style concerts
-Out of Town/Guest Instructor Workshops

My biggest goal (I'm aiming for mid-2015) is to offer HOT YOGA as another yoga style on our schedule. Hot Yoga is my passion and my specialty, and it would be a fantastic complement to our rainy, grey, drizzly winters! In order to make this happen, it will require a lot of fundraising, perhaps changing locations, detailed building planning, proper heating/humidity considerations, fully-equipped changerooms with showers, etc, etc. And it's going to happen... oh yes.... Port Angeles will have Hot Yoga... If there is anyone out there looking to invest in an amazing opportunity, they can contact me directly!!

I want to acknowledge our amazing teachers who've been right alongside me, being flexible, trainable, and completely positive and supportive! We've lost Travis to new and greener pastures -- best of luck Travis as you follow your new path!! We're happy to keep Amelia until California claims her! And Sara & Karlyn -- thank you for being here to watch as things unfold!!

If you have any questions, comments, feedback... please feel free to approach me or one of the other teachers. Emails and phone calls are great too! I want you to feel heard, and I want Kula Yoga to feel like your studio.

I'm so excited for what's to come.... and I'm constantly reminding myself to stop and smell the roses along the way. It's the journey, right?

Sincerely,

Jenny Stewart Houston
